Whenever I meet a foreigner I say, "wow I like your voice, where are you from ORIGINALLY?" (if you don't say originally, some people get haughty about not being perceived as "real Americans" especially young people) and then when they tell me, I say what the flag looks like. Usually people are super impressed because I live in WV and no one expects us to be worldly. I've actually had some wonderful conversations and encounters with this starter. Like one time a group of old Nepalis came into the restaurant I working in, and I asked them, so I drew the little double penant shape and the star and the moon on my server pad, and they literally started like cheering and ended up leaving me a 20$ tip. One time when I worked in a tea house, an older lady with a thick accent came in, I asked and she said Turkey but that she hated her voice cause people could tell she was foreign. Without even thinking I grabbed her hand in both of mine and said "don't you ever let anyone tell you that,
your voice is beautiful, you're here now and you're just as American as I am" she cried, thanked me profusely, and made a huge order. So thanks Zig Forums, this past decade here has been a wild ride and isn't always great for my mental health but you've legitimately helped me brighten people's days, and even helped me milk a few bucks out of foreigners. Everybody wins
