How do scandinaviods cope with the darkness in winter? I've been feeling like shit ever since winter time started and I just can't imagine how people with shorter days do it.

Anti depressants

Ah yes, /eu/, the board for discussion of everything European. Fuck off.

scandinavia is the only region in the world with a sizeable population and a latitude that's relevant to this question

darkness itself is nothing to cope with, its the weather that kills you. usually before christmas its rain and wet and no matter how many high beams you have on your car you cant see shit it just suck up the light. once you get snow on the ground, the sky clears and temperatures drop it gets comfy. snow reflects light in such a way a full moon creates almost daylight and everything is just cozy and magic. nothing like a evening walk in full moonlight and -30 before coming back to your cabin for some beers.

I have the same with the unrelenting heat and light hours in summer lol

We don't. We have mostly gotten used to it, but we're still mostly dead inside.

Alcohol

me in the green area of spen

I live in the same latitude as Madrid and I can barely handle it, I don't know how scandis haven't all killed themselves already

Americans can barely cope with Seattle which is slightly south of Paris. I don't imagine what they'd do in Scandinavia much further north and with much less winter daylight.

>winter
what's that? although actually we don't have any real seasonal variation at 10N anyway. it's only an hour and 15 minutes more daylight on the summer solstice than the winter solstice.

the tropics are also weird if you're not used to it. here June 21 is the longest day of the year like everywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere but not the highest the sun gets, that happens twice in late April and late August when the sun is just about overhead.

there's hardly any twilight in evening either, it just goes from full daylight to night like flicking a switch.

You’re kidding, this is the comfiest time of all.
I cope by dimming the lights and sitting down with a good book/movie/game. Just wish we get some proper snow this year, last year was disappointing.

holy shit i cannot imagine living in the orange zone

Based South-Eastern Hungary. (Banat)

Just imagine living in this hell

I welcome winter darkness with open arms.

I do the opposite with summer and longer days.

>leave for work
>it's dark

>get home from work
>it's dark

Such cases.

SSRI, snacking, drinking, amphetamines for white trash.

Its comfy with actual snow and cold you have a feeling of taking shelter. This gray semi cold and wet garbage isnt comfy at all.

It's a lot more comfy than you would think. I kind of wish it was like this all year round, and I'm not some shut-in NEET either. The illuminated midnights of the summer have their charms too, but I prefer the calming darkness of winter and fall.

I haven’t seen any lasting snow in 3 years here

I get severe seasonal depression to the point that I can barely function in Uni.

this is true
this is cope

cant imagine living the whole year with equal day length. the whole fun about summer is not having to care about time, its daylight outside anyway.

Me neither. That is exactly the Problem.

when you grow up you hate the darkness, when you grow older you start to thrive in it, simple as

walking back home from work on the dimly lit streets of the quiet city is one of the nicest feels I know, and thanks to my Latitude I don't need to take night shifts to experience it. Living the whole year with the same length day every year would be torture anyways.

I don't give shit about darkness. I actually prefer it over summer when the sun never sets and I can't sleep.

>walking back home from work on the dimly lit streets of the quiet city is one of the nicest feels I know
Especially when it lightly snows but you can only see it snowing from the street lights.

I dunno

>summer when the sun never sets and I can't sleep.
have you heard of this new thing called "window curtains" or something?

going for a walk in the summer is way better, so I don't see how this is supposed to be an advantage of the shitty short winter days

It doesn't help. The light always comes from some hole and the idea that it's sunny outside keeps me up.

the day/night difference on the solstices increases by about 10 minutes for each degree of latitude. in case you didn't know.

I've been feeling shitty too

this is some faggotry i cant understand, if you are tired you sleep no matter what.

Pic related.

>The light always comes from some hole
not enough to bother you when you have your eyes closed. You're just autistic as fuck
>the idea that it's sunny outside keeps me up.
as I said, autistic :D

>sizeable population
literally no one lives there
