It would help keep the flooding in Sudan in check since it just flooded hard recently and many areas need flood control which Egypt itself did with the Aswan dam. The issue is that Egypt feels entitled to the water and thus ruled itself like nothing would ever change (and that a water agreement which Ethiopian never signed for was ever relevant).
