What is the heart and soul foundation of your town? (local, not city)

My small town is built on port industry and one of the main ports of Australia.

>pic related just a random port

It used to be a summer retreat for orphans and fundamentalist temperance freaks from Chicago.

>summer retreat for orphans
what was the appeal? and how come specifically orphans?

My small town is built on port industry and one of the main ports of Brazil.

I think the idea was to raise the kids away from the city and out in a less developed environment. We're right on Lake Michigan and in addition to the beach, you had lots of forest, prairie and ravines.

Someone a hundred years ago with lots of money probably realized that orphans never get to have that experience and spent a lot of money making sure they can
t. worked at a summer camp for autists

the appeal of having a retreat there I meant

so it was like an empty area before they built a summer camp for orphans and now it's a town? kinda cool you got pics?

there was a market here in the middle of nowhere, because here was the only way through a nearby river. eventually they built the railway and put a station here and the place gradualy sarted to grow until it became the shitty city it's today.

My city came up on manufacturing and shipping but I don't think one thing ever dominated the economy. Nowadays its really diversified.

rust belt region?

used to be a kibutz, then a town was built next to it and the town mostly works in tech on this tech park next to the town

It was basically just wilderness along the old Indian trail between the cities of Chicago and Milwaukee. First you had farmers and innkeepers set up shop here in the mid-1800s, then the railroad came and the area became a mixture of summer resort for the wealthy, religious retreat for the pious, and the aforementioned orphanages. After World War II, it developed into a "proper" suburb. I don't have any good pictures off-hand, but if you watch the films of John Hughes, you'll get a feel for the area.

>tech park

didn't know that was a thing, I was looking for the literal park in your picture

>jewish technology
hmmm

does your town look like pic related?

its where all the tech companies build their buildings next to each other, i know there's atleast a dozen of these here if not more.
isnt this common everywhere? pretty sure i saw pics from silicon valley in usa where lots of tech companies had buildings next to each other.

pic related is another tech park in a nearby city, its where all the intel CPUs are designed which i thought was cool as a kid although i've bough AMD for my past 2 PCs.

no SOVL

is it in the middle of a desert or something why would they build like this, workers housing?

yea i just read about it, apparently the government sold the area cheap to encourage tech companies to come. i didnt know it was a government thing

also apperantly this one was build on an old templar town

Same for my city. Containers, cruise ships, a shipyard and a fuckton of oil rigs that come and go. It's pretty neat.

what do you mean what desert?
and you build commieblocks because they're cheap and easy to build (ugly as sin tho which is why israel is considered atrocious in terms of architecture quality)
later when people got richer there's nicer construction

The winery. Biggest employer and pivotal to the development of the town historically.

>oil rigs
is it north west spain?

desu these look almost just as bad

Which port? DW no one is going to doxx you

ASU I guess.

take your pick they're all the same

>worse
I said almost as bad, it's only because they are all completely identical. no SOVL

No, it's in the Canary Islands. We don't have any oil around here but still there's aparently a pretty important hub of companies that specializes in maintaining these kind of ships and platforms.
