Actually a lot of them think Pakis and other South Asian Muslims are descendants of Dalits and low castes. The logic being that since Dalits were being oppressed by Hindoos they'd find a way out of that degenerate social structure by converting to Islam. It's not true for me in any case since I'm Pashtun and my ancestors weren't Hindus or Indians anyway.

Pashtuns were not Buddhists but we had our own form of paganism. We actually colonized, assimilated and/or massacred the Buddhists or Hindus who lived in large portions of the areas we now inhabit until the middle ages.
