Was curious about etymology of slavic word for father and Wikipedia says that it is somehow connected with turk word "ata". Why would slavs call their dads with turk words lol, I dont believe it. Anyway- how did we lose almost common indoeuropean word?

Say coca cola, living meme

>e'čč

It possibly comes from the Gothic "atta". Though, the Basque "aita" also seems familiar.

Oh,other sours says (if anybody interested) this:
Greek-ἄττα , latin-atta, goth.-atta, albanian-at, irish-aite, hittite-attaš.

Non sono toscano

lol what ?

>baba
lmao we call a woman or a hag baba, it's quite derogatory

In Russian "tyatya" is archaic and peasant-ish, but still present.

Heh... Fag.

>From Proto-Slavic *baba.
>1. old woman, hag
>2. (colloquial) girl
>3. (usually derogatory) old woman, hag
>4. (derogatory) female person
purely slavic word

Baba is standard in Dalmatia, only Northies use it as "hag".

Spain really is blessed and the successor to the roman empire

Doomed to fail?

So, I'm guessing the English "babe" or "baby" has no connection to it?

Coul be and it probably is from PIE

papi :3

Same here, but it's more of a grandfather than a father.

>The Middle Eastern word baba (as in Ali Baba) is rather a term of endearment, and is ultimately derived from Persian بابا (bābā, “father”) (from Old Persian pāpa; as opposed to the Arabic words أَبُو (ʾabū) and أَب (ʾab); see also Papak), and is linguistically related to the common European word papa and the word pope, having the same Indo-European origin.

>Why would slavs call their dads with turk words lol
we also sometimes use the persian word peder, but more often in a comedic sense

Many of these family relative short words are most likely from a Proto-Sapiens language. I wouldn't agree that the word "mom" or "dad" comes from PIE. It's just simple words the little children say.

Same in Serbian
