the divide isn't religious but ethnic. Aryans = lacto-vegetarians. Dravidians = more hunter-gatherer ancestry. It's like northern vs. southern Europe but opposite. The parts closer to the Middle East eat less meat.
also a fun fact: Europe also ate very little meat until the Black Death. Half the population dying freed up space for animal feed and pasture. Prior to that, Europe's population density was the same as India's (except for Russia which was sparsely populated)

Not in the North East. Christianity was localised only around the south west coast especially along Malabar and Konkan regions. The NE region is mostly protestant due to missionaries there.

North Easterners are a totally different story altogether. They weren’t even supposed to be with India, that’s before East India Company annexed their lands. They used to be their own kingdoms or ruled by China/South East Asian kingdoms. They don’t really share Hindu/Islamic customs that much.

North East India can be Christian, Hindu or Buddhist. There's a minority of muslims as well but most of those are refugees who border hopped from Bangladesh.
South India is majority Hindu with a sizeable Christian and Muslim minority.
