user I...

the people were relocated to finland, the rest was left to wither away

suomi is so cute

It's shit and undeveloped

Finland is so close to Petersburg which is a huge city almost as populous as all of Finland. Does this city have any impact on Finland? Do you go there for shopping, for a weekend or something?

Washington Airport is Finnish culture

it's was never finnish culture to begin with they were karelians. that's just saying balkan slavs are the same people. karlians are orthodox and have a language of their own. don't really get this karelia obsessions estonians are culturally more similar than karelians, but never seen as same people as the karelians are

True

But Karelia was part of the Finnish state so probably Karelians assimilated to the Finnish society a bit.

Nigga you need a visa to visit st petersburg and costs like 100€. And it's the opposite st petersburg niggas come over here since shit is actually cheaper here. Only cheaper products in russia is booze and cigarette. But consumer products and especially luxury goods are way cheaper in here than in Russia.

They come here to buy cheese (and other dairy products), don't think it's that popular of a travel destination. There are some weekend trips that don't require a visum anymore though.

It would be very great to get Petsamo back, Karelia could be cool I guess but I don't give a single shit about Salla. I think all of them are pretty much Russian at this point. And by Russian I mean pretty much shitholes. If you understand Russian I recommend reading this

I've been to Vyborg once though, and it wasn't all bad

Gulf of Finland is Gulf of Finland!

Is it common to learn Russian for Finns?

Vaikka elämän sävelen hukkasin
Oman onneni sirpaleita säilytän
Sillä sinua kaltoin jos kohtelin
Olisin voinut vaikeampi olla
Yritin silti aina sovinnolla kuitenkin

behind german and spanish so not really

yes and even french is more popular than russian.

WTF are you talking about, most Karelians from the lost territories were Lutheran and most Karelians left in Finland are Lutheran.

Karelians are the tribe that got split between Sweden and Novgorod so they went both ways

It's a thing among Tumblr Karelian larpers these days. Lutheranized and Finnicized Karelians are not real Karelians but Orthodoxified and Russified Karelieans are.

80% of the people lived in the southwest part

It's the same arrogance Russia does with belarussians and ukrainians. But karelians are even more distinct than they are.
Btw that balkan slavic example is a good way to desribe whats different between karelians and finns. But while balkan slavs speak serbo croat karelian languages are not mutually intelligbe with finnish
>Karelians are the tribe that got split between Sweden and Novgorod so they went both ways
Karelians are their own ethnicity simple as

Thats what I was trying to say. When Sweden occupied karelia the orthodox population was driven out more into russia. People were classified by their religion. Russians were russians be it slavs or karelians since they were orthodox. Same way finns were called swedes by russians since we were lutherans
It appears most people dont seem tor realize that nation states and nationalism didn't always exist
t.

There's a difference between
>Karelians(tribe in Finland)
>Karelians(ethnic group in Russia and the old border area)
Both descend from Karelians(Viking age people) but the former were culturally mended with Finland while the latter were Russified etc

btw why did finland attack the soviet union? and then they rejected the offer that would have them get land in the east in exchange for the border strip? what were they expecting to happen?

>Karelians occupy a region that is split between two states
>Karelians start to adapt to the mainstream cultures of these states
>skip a thousand years
>"ONLY THE KARELIANS WHO ARE ORTHODOX AND SPEAK RUSSIAN ARE REAL KARELIANS!!1"
fuck off Kondie. Go back to twitter, there you can block people who call you out on your bs.

Yeah but what's the fixation with karelians? Estoinans are culturally more similar to finns but no one ever thinks they're finns. If you have to go all they way back to viking age to find some kinship that's far too gone m8 imo

as much of a cringelord larper as kondie is, I think he's at least pretty inclusive with who gets to call themselves Karelian. (makes sense since he himself is some quadroon who picked up the identity a few years ago as a substitute for a personality)
t. other

>When Sweden occupied karelia the orthodox population was driven out more into russia
False. Karelians within the Sweidish sphere just gravitated towards Finnish and Swedish ways, and the Karelians in the Russian side gravitated towards Russian culture. And you're arbitrarily claiming the russified ones are the "real Karelians".

It would be cool if they had access to the barents sea

Dude, 1/3 of Finns are Karelians. The dialects spoken in eastern Finland are essentially the same as Karelian language in Russia except that the dialects on the Russian side have so much Russian influence that it's difficult for us to understand it.

Karelians are the tribe that got split in two, with some ending up under Sweden and converting to Catholicism and later Lutheranism. They're now the eastern part of Finns and their dialect has been heavily influenced by standardized Finnish (plus Swedish and German etc).

Some Karelians ended up under Russia and became Orthodox and heavily Russian influenced.

"Finns and Karelians are two different ethnic groups" makes no sense whatsoever since Finns were created out of several ethnic groups, one of which is Karelians (who didn't all end up under Finland though).

>What do Finns think about clay they lost?
too bad, nothing to do about it now
>Is there any Finnish culture left?
no

Are you using that same logic when talking about belarussians, ukrainians and balkan slavs? Honestly if you need to go back 1000 years to find something karelianess it's just wezzing at that point.
And I don't really care what you indentify as since to me they're all pseudo russians anyway

because this

They are not cheaper, they are just usually better in quality

As a Karelian (grandparents on both side of my family are from Isthmus) this thread is cringe. Kondie go away already.

This.

Holy shit this autism. Why do you care about muh heritage that much? We've all been mutted at this point between different tribes. There's hardly any regional dialects even
