How did Protestantism impact your country?

In Scotland it caused the ruling classes to try and exterminate all native culture in Scotland and have Scotland annexed by England.

bad

In England it forced us to annex and take responsibility for the subhumans up north.

imposed apartheid and sectarianism on us as a consequence of colonialism

It didn't.

>subhuman
Sounds like racism...

Literacy skyrocketed and people became more educated. Also laid the foundations for Written finnish.

Pretty based if ou ask me. Fuck the pope and his bootlickers.

when will you stop making threads

It lead to the first translation of the bible into Swedish, which in turn meant a lot to the standardization of the language.

Protestantism in Sweden also put a big emphasis on learning the bible. Hence the state started teaching reading much earlier than the rest of Europe, especially non-protestant countries. And as a result of this and some other differences northern Europe ended up becoming wealthier than the south. Even though to be fair Northern Europe was already getting better when the reformation came around.

Yeah. Very sad stuff. Before Protestantism I think the English just wanted to annex Ireland and rule it but didn't care about culture change then after they decided that the market demands the Irish must learn English or something.

I also forgot to mention it's one of the main reason no ancient books exist in Scotland because the monasteries were abolished so they couldn't afford to look after them so thousands of books just rotted to nothing.

Lumber sellers got slightly bit wealthier.

That didn't happen because of Protestantism.

There wouldn't have been any official bible translation into Swedish without protestantism. Literacy would have been as low as in Southern European countries. The wealth part is a bit more far fetched but I'd say there's a pretty strong correlation. You can't really compare Scotland to Sweden though, your country converted to another religion than we did. Sweden has never been Calvinist.

>There wouldn't have been any official bible translation into Swedish without protestantism
Official by what? Translations of Bible's into vernacular languages are ancient.
>. Literacy would have been as low
It was not low there.

church of england isnt protestantic

Nice

It did

>Official by what?
By church authorities. The Roman church has had an official translation into Latin for hundreds of years. But translations into other languages didn't have any official recognition or use. The protestant reformation meant that all of Sweden had a common translation that everybody used. That helped to create a common language.
>It was not low there
It was low everywhere. But it was higher in northern Europe than in the south.

Bible was translated into german.
Allowed the seizure of church wealth and secularisation of the teutonic order eventually leading to the founding of prussia.

...
>But translations into other languages didn't have any official recognition or use
Why does it need "official" use? No one stops you.

Wish we were protestant instead of catholic
Almost all protestant countries are prosperous and powerful, while 99% of catholic countries are shitholes
Well, at least we aren't muslim or orthodox

It caused our independence.

>Almost all protestant countries are prosperous and powerful,
Because they had huge empires.

Pretty much this, isn't really almost the same as catholicism but rejecting the Pope's rule, who will be executed by the king of England instead.

>Why does it need official
Ask the Vatican

>Norgay
>Denmark
>Svveden

What? You don't need an "official" vatican bible to read it.
Yes. That's what I said.

Luther translated the bible into german and advocated that only the bible is legitimate not church institutions and that people should read it for themselves.
Then the swedes did the same.

You know if you read the bible you interpret it? You know if you translate it you interpret it?

>No one stops you.
At the synod of Béziers (Concilium Biterrense) in 1246 it was also decided that the laity should have no Latin and vernacular and the clergy no vernacular theological books.

Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor issued an edict against German interpretations of Scripture at the request of Pope Urban V 1369 in Lucca, This was in order that such interpreters would not seduce laymen and malevolent spirits to heresy or error.[27] Nevertheless, his son started the handwritten Wenceslas Bible in 1385.

In 1376, Pope Gregory XI ordered that all literature on the Bible should be placed under ecclesiastical direction. As a result, only the Vulgate and a few poor quality translations in national languages were tolerated.

The translation of the Bible caused great unrest among the clergy, and for their sake, several defensive provincial synods were convened, such as the 3rd Council of Oxford (ended in 1408). Under the chairmanship of Archbishop Thomas Arundel, official positions against Wycliffe were written in the Oxford Constitution and Arundel Constitution. The latter reads as follows:

[…] that no one in the future will translate any text of Scripture into English

Pope Paul II (pontificate 1464–1471) confirmed the decree of James I of Aragon on the prohibition of Bibles in vernacular languages.[33] Under Isabella I of Castile and her husband Ferdinand II of Aragon, the printing of vernacular Bibles was prohibited in Spanish state law. The Spanish Inquisition which they instituted ordered the destruction of all Hebrew books and all vernacular Bibles in 1497.

I never knew Irish Catholics hated Protestantism so much. I'm part Northern Irish/Ulster Scot. I don't hate Irish people. I love beautiful redhead girls. I have Irish blood coursing through my veins. Sad to see this whole sectarian violence is a thing in the British Isles. I was raised Protestant. I can't stand Catholics. Idk why the Irish love their Catholicism so much it's garbage. I just wish British people could all get along.

Your point being?

>while 99% of catholic countries are shitholes

this is bullshit
