Why do Hindus depict their gods as light skinned blue people when their own scriptures say that they're dark skinned?
e.g. Shiva, Vishnu, especially Krishna
Never much made sense to me.

Because ancient indians were blue
Shiva and Krishna are always known and portrayed as dark skinned.
Indra (Thunder), Surya (Sun), Agni (Fire) and have blonde hair, and white skin. But you never see that portrayed either.
>blonde hair
bullshit
ok, but why blue skin?
Because blue as a skin colour is associated with divinity. There real skin colour could have been anything between Nord White and Abo Black
From the Rig Veda:
>For new prosperity we seek to Agni, him whose course is splendid, blonde-haired, excellently bright,
>Whom Matarisvan stablished, dweller in the heaven, meet for high praise and holy, sage and true to Law.
(3.002.13)
>Thou, thou, when praised by men who sacrificed of old. hadst pleasure in their lauds, O Indra blonde-haired.
>All that befits thy song of praise thou welcornest, the perfect pleasant gift, O Golden-hued from birth.
(10.096.05)
>SAVITAR, blonde-haired, hath lifted eastward, bright With the sunbeams, his eternal lustre;
>He in whose energy wise Pusan marches, surveying all existence like a herdsman.
(10.139.01)
>Indra, much invoked, hath killed the infidels, by his thunderbolt, and laid them low with arrows.
>That mighty Thunderer with his fair-complexioned friends won the land, the sunlight, and the waters.

It makes sense, Krishna, Shiva, Vishnu are pre-Indoeuropean Gods. Indra, Agni, Surya are Indoeuropean. These both merged to give birth to Hinduism.
But Indra is portrayed like this traditionally
And Krishna while described being dark skinned is shown as blue. I don’t know. Maybe the original artists took a lot of artistic freedom.
“He was strongly built; his arms were long, stout and strong; his neck, which was marked with three lines, resembled a conchshell; his eyes were reddish; and his complexion was blackish. He was very young, he was garlanded with flowers, and his entire body was fully decorated with various ornaments.”
Srimad Bhagvatam — Book of God (8.8.32)
Artistic depiction I guess? Blue color seems to strike out more than black color does. Also in most paintings, Asuras (demons) were given an ash-grey black colour so it could've been to make the gods stand out?
I'm Christian though so I'm not really an expert, Hindu anons will be able to tell you better.
blue as in dark blue retard
>real
...
has any artist depicted all of them in the literal way?
Yes. Molee Art on Deviantart. All his depictions of Hindu gods are from the scripture as is.
Here is Arjun, from the Mahabharata. He is black skinned in the scripture.
Here is Indra, blonde haired and white skinned as in the Rig Veda.
Vayu (Air) being dark haired but light skinned.
Who cares what a bunch of fictional characters are depicted like.
Rama being black skinned
Are you a muslim? An edgy atheist? Or, pirated hinduism, i mean khalsa?
they were so black that they looked blue
nice this stuff is cool
What i realised is, dark men with caucasian features look great, its the nigger non caucasian features which look ugly
I have seen people like this in real life and then it came to my head how dark blue was used instead of black. There’s that underlying blue-ish hue. Black itself was probably hard to draw facial features on—this my grandmother confirmed to me.
Why?
Not true, Somalis and Ethiopians are considered less attractive than West Africans. Also stop using the word “nigger” please. It reeks of cringe especially coming from a flag where people are dark as coal.
Rama wasn't described dark. But then again, there are many versions of Ramayana. I guess Valmiki described him of fairer complexion, don't know what Tulsi Das described him as.
>Not true, Somalis and Ethiopians are considered less attractive than West Africans
I couldn't care less, a caucasian woman darkened in color to nigger level is still infinitely better looking that blunt african featured white af women.
>Also stop using the word “nigger” please. It reeks of cringe especially coming from a flag where people are dark as coal.
And I consider most of them ugly, whats your point? India can be whatever, I am me.
>India can be whatever, I am me.
Based.
