Americans hate this movie because it's literally a mirror reflecting American society to them, and instead of getting angry at their society, they're getting angry at the messenger.
The entire controversy around it is purely American. People here in France haven't batted an eye, and the movie even received critical acclaim. Why? Because it explicitly denounces what it represents, and what it represents is the Americanization of French culture through the lens of hypersexualization of everything, including children. The entire movie is designed precisely so those scenes make you extremely uncomfortable - and it obviously worked.
What's really fascinating is that Americans blow steam about a movie depicting hypersexualization of children, yet they don't display near the same level of anger at things like cheerleaders, tween pop stars, or child beauty pageants.
American society is so thoroughly unable to look at itself in a mirror, that when a foreign movie comes out and criticize it, they accuse the producers of doing in fiction what they themselves are doing in real life. There's a nice parallel with politics and the fact that America NEVER questions itself, whether in foreign or domestic politics.

This movie seems to be about the factual, inevitable social norms prevalent among younger generations. Those irrationally making a big deal about it seem to be overcompensating because it's nothing that stuff such as TikTok doesn't enable. The internet silently and effectively killed the concept of childhood and growing up.

Seems to be the only rational reaction against this: parents being more attentive to what their children browse, watch and listen to (pop music lyrics have become x-rated to say the very least). It's in a way a losing battle because the social interaction in schools etc makes children and ya get acquainted with all this filth at least partially, but good parenting can teach them to avoid this stuff voluntarily.

Then again, you should take into account the cost of keeping a child from socializing with others of her own age. It's not that simple. These are complicated times.
Nothing is more important than raising them right and keeping them in the church. If they have to sacrifice having playdates or seeing other kids, so be it. Well worth the trade off in my opinion.
