Well, nothing considering that the thread has no replies.
very good and fun show ripe with creative setups, likeable and memorable characters (albeit not immune from takahashi's signature cuntishness), and waifuable cuties
it's a cult classic and deservedly so
Apparently so
standard rumiko series, you watch it for a dozen or so episodes and then drop it when you get bored of the same 1 joke being repeated over and over.
Ah what the heck, I suppose I'll give my opinion.
Show started off slowly at first, and to be honest I couldn't really stand them.
Generally at about the 10-20 range, they actually started to develop likeable traits, but this wasn't really set in stone until 44.
The quality continued to go up, and of course we can't forget the oh so popular Beautiful Dreamer.
Then up until about 106, there was a slight decline in quality all around, which I believe had something to do with the departure of Mamoru Oshii, who was the director up until then.
Quality recovered about thirty episodes in after Oshii's run, and I say ended on a good note, especially with the movies and the OVAs.
The movies I'm very fond of, aside from 4 and 6, and the OVAs are overall nice, aside from the beginning ones.
Overall, a very good series. One of Takahashi's best works imo next to Maison Ikkoku.
tl;dr: it's a very good show.
How would you rate the movies best to worst?
For me it
>beautiful dreamer
>lum the forever
>only you
>remember my love
I haven't see the last two yet
>Final Chapter
>Beautiful Dreamer
>Remember My Love
>Only You
>Lum the Forever
>Literal Shit
>Always My Darling
Is always my darling really that bad? I think I'll watch it before the final chapter then
You really should, Always My Darling is like the anime after Oshii's departure; it hits the reset button. But in the anime's case, they were simply adapting earlier chapters where Ataru hadn't undergone character development.
Always My Darling doesn't have this excuse, it's literally just shit. Also probably the reason why there wasn't any Urusei Yatsura content until 2008.
I don't completely agree with you about the quality of the anime after 106, some of the best episodes are in that timeframe
>the one about lum going through different realities
>rei and lum's brake up explained
>the one with the cat and the supernova
>Texas chainsaw massacre
I've actually been slightly disappointed with the last 10 episodes, it doesn't feel like there's any good rapping up for the side character's stories
One of the best series that seems unknown to the west. If you want a show that is generally funny without the "B-bake! Y-y-you found me half-naked! Hentai! How dare you?! It's not I want your hot loads or anything!" that plagues all anime nowadays. The cast in the show is very fluid and go very well together and their shenanigans are great. Very heartfelt show too. It will fool you to thinking it is episodic but it will frequently reference other episodes and will hold relevancy. The overall theme is great and is made very apparent, though it will be apparent throughout the series is you focus, at the final movie, that being the 5th. I'd rec this to anyone who likes romcoms. Also, this show is best watched slowly. The first time I watched it, it took about a year. Currently on my second watch through. You will miss the show once it's gone.
Iirc, the only character outside of Lum and Ataru who get an ending is Shinobu.
and thats in an ova.
I've heard that the manga finishes it better, is that true?
If you're referring to the ending of the series itself, which was adapted in the Final Chapter, I believe so.
See, in the manga, Lum and Ataru are simply walking back to school discussing their feelings instead of being lynched.
If you're referring to Shinobu's ending..I believe the whole Inaba thing was done equally well.
I'm talking about the end of everyone's stories
>plz don't spoil the final chapter for me, I haven't seen it yet
Ah, no. I don't believe there is any other endings, just Lum and Ataru, Shinobu and Inaba. Everybody else continues the status quo.
There are no spoilers there fear not
>instead of being lynched.
That's sort of a meta aspect of the movie. All the cast gets angry because Ataru still doesn't say he loves Lum (just like the people watching the movie and the franchise), both know their feelings for each other but still prefer to keep with their cat and mouse game. The final shot is the frame freezing, just like someone is taking a picture.
Ataru already said it in Beautiful Dreamer. Their game is the way he can always keep loving her, like falling in love.
> ryuunosuke doesn't get her dress
I'm pissed
truly the most tragic part of the series honestly
It's a good ending, I have to admit, but I just fancy the manga's ending more. Different strokes for different folks and all that jazz.
SPOILER TAG FFS
spoiler
>that seems unknown to the west
by west I assume you mean the states
she gets it in the movies
it's just a dream but that's something
All English speaking countries and most of Europe
Started watching it not long ago, I only watched 10 episodes and some of them are just weird and plain dumb, such as the one with the baby riding a flying bear
Pretty much. I know UK had a brief dub so I assume that garnered some audience.
It'll get better, you're just in the growing pains phase. Won't necessarily get less weird, but it'll get better.
dw I don't think anyone likes Kintaro
I prefer the ending of the anime to be honest. But I can see why you prefer the ending of the manga.
To be honest that's why I have a few small problems with the last movie. It's good, there's no doubt about it, and the inclusion of scenes exclusive of the anime is fantastic, but with that said, the animated counterparts of Ataru and Lum already explored and explained their feelings to each other long time ago.
Hell, in the third movie their love was so deep they even broke a curse across time and space. In Beautiful Dreamer Ataru is able to wake up because he says the name of the girl he loves (Lum) and in the last episode (and sort of the fourth movie), he completely accepted Lum as part of his life and as the person he loves.
It has a good italian opening youtube.com
Always a good show to watch random episodes in the summer when you're bored
DOES NO-ONE KNOW WHAT A SPOILER TAG IS??
SPOILER YOUR IMAGES TOO!!
Urusei Yatsura is one of those few shows where there's something that the adaptation did better, or equally as well quite frequently. A small bugbear I have with the manga ending that I don't have with the anime's ending is that Takahashi sort of showed you a piece of candy and then said "nah, can't have it sorry got to leave it open ended." >conclusion is utterly obvious
thanks takahashi
Yeah the 10th one was great though, loved it
Maybe japs do
SAME
Also, here's an image either official (as in made by Takahashi) or at the very least endorsed by her from what I've heard.
I've seen this too and tried image searching. There's only one jap site that had it and obv was all in japanese. Any link to mommiko quoting this? That picture makes my fucking heart melt it's so cute
10 is really good, you'll get similar crumbs in the future.
I guess I'll just abandon my thread then
Sorry, my mistake. We usually don't get non-initiated people in these type of threads.
Yeah IIRC is official. I think the third movie also mentions they get married and had a family, one of the main characters is a descendant of Ataru and Lum
Alright, goodbye user.
