What does this mean for the future, Last of Us on PC?? Gravity Rush on Switch?? The fuck is going on?
First Microsoft puts Xbox games on PC and Nintendo, then Sony allows Death Stranding and Horizon on PC and then Nintendo allows TW101 on everything. What is happening to the industry?
>buy PS5 >backwards compatible PS4 games look and run better on PC >two games at launch Well, launching with TLoU 2 and GoT is still better than launching with Order 1886 and Knack 2 I guess.
>other platforms >s So does that mean something besides pc or what?
Jace Cooper
People aren't too big on brand loyalty anymore to exclusively buy one console for all his gaming purposes, unlike back in the 360/PS3 days.
Besides, now most of us are on the PC anyways (even most normalfags). This is basically an excuse for devs to capture the now huge PC market.
The only people still stuck on consoles are dumb sportsfags and lazy niggers
Jeremiah Ramirez
Yo shit posts aside >Gravity Rush on Switch this would actually be dope as fuck. I hope we get a VR gravity rush sometime too actually.
Mason Hernandez
>First Microsoft puts Xbox games on PC Microsoft owns Windows. >and Nintendo Microsoft always allowed releases on Nintendo handhelds. >then Sony allows Death Stranding Big flop. >and Horizon on PC >I think it’s important that we stay open to new ideas of how to introduce more people to PlayStation, and show people maybe what they’ve been missing out on. blog.us.playstation.com/2020/03/10/hermen-hulst-qa-interview-with-head-of-playstations-worldwide-studios/ Besides, Sony at the time ported Twisted Metal, Jet Moto and Twisted Metal 2 to Microsoft Windows. >Nintendo allows TW101 on everything. As a favor to PlatinumGames.
I really want be to see the financials behind this stuff for Microsoft and Sony, was having console exclusives actually worth it if they’re doing stuff like this now?
Hunter Clark
why is sony doing this? people bought their console for the exclusives
Luke Bennett
Keep begging PCMaster wait.
Matthew Jones
>What is happening to the industry?
PC is simply winning, like we've been telling you for years now.
Colton Garcia
Uncharted 4 (the best selling PS4 game) only sold 14 million copies. PlayStation 4 sold 100 million units.
Nathaniel Hall
oh no, now i get to play it again but with better FPS and graphics. how horrible.
Josiah Cooper
>What is happening to the industry? A step forward is happening. Exclusivity needs to be purged. And why the fuck are you so mad about games from a already 7 years old system making it to other platforms at some point in the future? You already played and enjoyed them. Let others enjoy them as well.
Christopher Moore
Death Stranding was THE first-party flop of the generation, at least so far.
Elijah Garcia
Sony realized that people who would not buy a PS4 just because it has no exclusives are in a minority or more specificly the fanboys who cry when games come to PC are a extremely vocal minority. As most sold games on the platform are ironically Multi-plats.
Sony always makes more money from software than hardware sales. So if software sales are the primary focus why not bring its games to a platform that does not belong to your direct competitors. There are a ton of people who dont like buying consoles just for a couple of exclusives but would buy those exclusives on PC.
But for all i know i might be comleatly wrong. We will see how well Horizon zero dawn sells.
Jeremiah Williams
I think Sony might be preparing itself to sell to Disney.
Eli Sanchez
I don't see the big deal about porting games 3-4 years after they released and got 99.9% of their sales on PlayStation.
Gavin Wright
say a game that matters that is in this store and it ISN'T a beta testing
I'm fine with everything converging on PC gaming and custom hardware solutions as 'consoles.' There really is no point for proprietary hardware at this stage of the game.
Brandon Nelson
>bankrupt when theres billions of manchildren star wars retards around the world

Carter Long
The only console people buy for exclusives is Nintendo (just look at the 1st party attachment rates) most people buy PS/Xbox for 3rd party games
Liam Bell
I think its pretty obvious whats happening. PC truly is the master race.
Chase James
But they’re talking about doing simultaneous releases for the PS5 gen, like what MS is doing right now with Xbox games. This isn’t just for older games.
Which makes me wonder if exclusivity actually gained any of the console makers anything in the long run if this is the new standard
literally why would you do this from a business position though? Xbox struggles precisely because they haven't made an exclusive game worth playing in over 10 years. I only bought a PS3 and a PS4 because of exclusives. So are Sony happy to lose hardware sales?
Caleb Gomez
so what I'm reading is "we'll shovel out some shitty ports to Steam 10 years after the game was released exclusively on console." although if they have real brass ones what'll actually happen is "We'll take a year exclusivity bribe from Epic Games because we know nobody is buying a 10 year old game for $60, and THEN after 11 (eleven) (two ones side-by-side) we'll shovel a shitty port of this antique exclusive out onto Steam"
Jacob Young
>snoygroids were talking about exclusives mattering between the sexbox and the PS5 >this happens
lmao
Josiah Garcia
That's a fucking excuse user. not good enough.
Owen Cooper
D-does this mean we won't have another 7 years of forced yellow snoyjack posting?
No its convenience and why do you want to give nintendo your money so badly, their games are so shit these days they need mods to make them interesting anyways
Adrian Rivera
You only read the headlines did you? They are losing money from the lack of attendance on their theme parks, its literally impossible for them to go bankrupt this fucking fast.
Ryder Murphy
WHY MUST FAGGOTS ALWAYS SAY "JUST" WHEN THERE COULD BE BETTER METHODS? WHY DO SO FEW OF YOU HAVE NO BALLS BETWEEN YOUR LEGS? FUCKING FAGGOT.
Yes but shouldn't last much longer. Shanghai Disneyland is back open, Hong Kong will soon follow. Disneyland, Disney World and Disneyland Paris are projected to be open by mid July and no word on Tokyo.
Adam Watson
Are you drunk How is getting free games being a lap dog
Jose Kelly
OHNONONONONONO

>years after the game was released exclusively on console." death stranding is not even 1 year old keep coping
Hudson Campbell
That’s the point. With these actions by MS and Sony, the commonly held belief about exclusive games bringing a lot of value to a console must be incorrect.
Evan Myers
>>backwards compatible PS4 games look and run better on PC None of the exclusive games of the previous generation will go to PC as they don't use this label, unless they are rereleased, and that's not backwards compatibility.
Nolan Garcia
Because it's a fucking compromise. It can be shitty and late. It's no good pretending every time it's another SNES or WiiU emulator. Every company is making progress, moving forward but of course Zig Forums will defend the fucking micky mouse of games. "It's fine you can just do (insert inferior shit here) thing"
Connor Walker
>For fucking years Zig Forums doomposted about how Nintendo would be the first to go third-party >It's fucking sony instead what the hell has happened
Logan Cruz
PC/Switch master race.
Eli Thompson
reminder that Sony Roachbox4 is a multiplat box for third world mutts to buy lootboxes. A Microsoft owned IP sold better on PS4 than two "GOTY" games. Get your shit together.
both Death Stranding and Horizon is coming to Steam you retard
Ryder Thomas
>xbox exclusives also on PC >ps5 exclusives also on PC Looks like Nintendo actually won. By walkover.
Jackson Hall
shame you use the most soulless nintendo game of the decade to meme with, fuck Game Freak man.
Kevin Ward
It means one of two thing. One, Sony’s first party production values are too high and they can’t recoup the costs from a single platform, plus their exclusives don’t drive their console sales. Two, Sony is not confident about the future of console gaming and this gives them somewhat of an out to turn their product into a brand similar to Xbox. It might also mean both of these things.
Regarding their likely uncertainty about the future of console gaming, keep in mind they are not optimistic and they are shit at predicting the future. They believed their brand and loyalists would support PS3 all on its own. They were wrong. Both MS and Sony were apparently (laughably) afraid of Google and Stadia. Sony knows they have a new console that’s inferior to their competitors and that both consoles will probably cost too much for normies the first couple of years. They know their competitor has a low end solution in the works and they’re gonna have to keep the PS4 around to compete with it but it’s not 1:1 competition. They know the new consoles won’t be a graphical leap over the prior gen especially due to the mid gen existing. They know all they have to go off of is a fucking SSD that can’t be used in marketing to appeal to normies. And they can’t cut the costs or keep them down for a while because coronachan affects production. Microsoft is in a better position going in to the new gen but both are kinda fucked
Kevin Perry
Probably everything but Switch because it's underpowered. Sony selling its games as multiplatform is a smart business decision because they get 100% of the proffits on their own platform and 70% of the proffits on other platforms. They'll make way more money than keeping them exclusive to just PS5 owners. A while ago Sony announced plans longer development cycles for fewer games, so that means fewer opportunities to charge people $60 unless they go multi-plat. First party games going on other consoles DOES NOT mean that Sony won't pay for exclusivity of third party games, because they still need to incentivize people to buy their consoles.
It's obvious that console exclusives cannot be worth it in and of themselves, I mean by being exclusive the game literally limits its market size by design. Looking at PS4 and Xbox, any exclusive that runs on either of them could run on the other (and on PC) as well. Obviously this means that by keeping the game exclusive it will sell less. Any Switch game could run on any other platform as well, though with Switch you'd actually have to give up on portability and any potential Joycon gimmicks.
This means that exclusives primarily exist to enforce the platform itself, the goal of an exclusive title is to get people on the platform and then to keep them in the walled garden, so they don't abandon the platform in favor of the competition. Nintendo is kind of an exception to this since their consoles have been kind of lacking in general multiplat support, as such they haven't been multiplat machines with a flavoring of exclusives, they've mostly been first-party oriented for a few generations now. The exclusive strategy as employed by Sony (and previously by MS) only makes sense as long as the platform promotion the exclusives serve as ends up making overall more money from hardware and other software sales than the exclusives would make by going multiplat.
If they evaluate the market and then decide that exclusives would make more money as multiplats or that exclusives aren't required for their platform to be successful then it simply no longer makes sense to intentionally gimp the audience size for the games, hence ports and multiplats. Sure, they may not want to make games for the main competition (like Sony making Xbox games), but moving games to PC could make a lot of sense if there's little overlap between the console crowd and the PC crowd, it would simply mean that PC players who otherwise would completely ignore the game may instead pay for it.
