X-men vs SF gets more attention than this game, is there a reason why? Did it just not do well?
Why doesn't anyone talk about the first MvC?

Totally eclipsed by MvC2. Same reason people don't talk about X-Men vs: Street Fighter or Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter outside of Saturn enthusiasts.
I used to play this everyday and the pool hall next to my high school. It was only a quarter and the asian kids hogged the MvC 2 machine.
I remember this and not Sonic Adventure selling me on the Dreamcast because it actually supported the tag system unlike the PlayStation "vs. Capcom" games.
XvSF gets fondly remembered because it was the first crossover, and MvC is forgotten because MvC2 came out a year later and has tonsof memery surrounding it.
the other crossovers were better and MvC2 is still GOAT
Its my favorite MvC, its the one i think of when i think MvC
Xmen vs street fighter is the same game with a better roster.
It was one of my favorite games on arcade that's it until I saw competitive scene in ggpo, after one of those guys did an infinite combo to me I totally dropped it, i play it here and there but never to play it competitively youtu.be
Old ass motherfucker here, back in the day I didn't like it as much compared to MSHvsSF and neither did most of the people at the arcades I used to hang out because:
>Way higher damage values than previous VS games, meaning less bang for your bucks
>Small roster with 3 characters less (2 if you don't count Norimaro) than MSHvsSF
>Removal of several combo possibilities in old characters
>More pushback on all attacks
>Characters people wanted to see in a Capcom VS (since it now was Capcom instead of only SF) ended up as fucking assists
To be fair, all the VS games had inifinites
It's an awesome game with some of the best sprite work Capcom did for the CPS2 and a fantastic OST, but it's also really fucking busted mechanically. Marvel 2 is more unbalanced by its roster, but the actual mechanics in MvC1 are fucked, especially the strikers and the whole Infinite Supers thing when you have both characters out (which makes War Machine fucking stupid because the moment he maxes out his meter from whiffing air normals he can do >50% with a CHIP DAMAGE setup).
Marvel 1 had the soul, Marvel 2 had the solid 3v3 tag gameplay. Marvel 3 finally merged those two strengths, only misstep being X-Factor (and a handful of characters that needed nerfs that never got them). This is why TvC is so good, because it's even less busted than Marvel 3 while being just as fun and soulful.
>TvC is way more busted tho
>competitive gaming
>same characters vs same characters
what is even the point
>>Small roster with 3 characters less (2 if you don't count Norimaro) than MSHvsSF
I believe that people thought this at the time, but man it feels stupid to me. MSHvSF had zero new character sprites outside of Norimaro. MvC1 had brand new sprites for CapCom, Strider, Mega Man, Jin, Venom, Roll, & Gambit, while changing up Iron Man to make War Machine and touching up the other veterans AND making all the assist characters. MSHvSF was nothing but an SF Alpha dump vs characters from the previous few games on the Marvel side, and the secret characters were lazy recolors like Armored Spider, Iron Gief, and Mephisto.
I'll take Baroque & Mega Crash over X-Factor & TAC Infinites any day, and I prefer Marvel 3 overall.
If you think TvC is busted try it's japan only previous revision, cross generation of heroes. That game was busted as fuck.
To be honest, I think Mega Crash is TvC's one fatal misstep. Baroque could use some tweaking to avoid unblockable resets but it wasn't the worst otherwise. God I want a new tvc
eclipsed by MvC2
It's underrated
Oh believe me, I know, there's a reason why the fatass was removed from the Japanese version besides licensing issues
The issue was how TvC was infinite ridden, baroque, mega crash and X-factor are fucking cancer, and so was reducing the button count even more than MvC2 did
>Gameplay
3 > 2 > Infinite > 1
>Roster
3 > 2 > 1 >>>>> Infinite
>Balance
Infinite > 3 > 1 = 2
>Music
1 >= 3 > 2 >>>>>>>>> Infinite
>Visuals
3 > 1 > 2 (points docked for all the asset reuse + generic stages) >>>>>> Infinite
>"Soul"
3 >= 1 >>> 2 >>>>> Infinite
>Overall
3 > 1 = 2 >>> Infinite
The best pre-MvC1 Marvel/Capcom game is either MSH or Punisher beat-em-up.
>Snubbed by Vs series thrice (granted it would've been weird to put him into TvC when Dante had never been in Vs before)
I feel like now that DMC5 has happened, Nero has to be a lock if they ever make another Vs game, right?
After how Disney+Ono royally fucked MvC:I I seriously doubt we'll ever see a VS game in a LOOOONG time, they put that last nail in the VS series like 3rd Strike did
Such a fucking shame because we finally got pic related and it turned out to be shit
MvC is definitely shelved for a while, but a new Vs game could be on the table since Ono was moved out of the lead spot for fighting game development for Ryozo. Not sure what company would work for them, but something bigger/more global than Tatsunoko but not as tied up in huge corporate plans as Marvel. I think the company needs to not be a gaming company, so that they bring in that periphery fanbase that those Vs games did, and we get creative translation of non-vidya characters to a fighter, which is part of the charm of MvC & TvC.
More busted than what? Definitely not any Marvel game.
Isn't it a shame Morrigan only has this Super in this particular game
Is that Chunnigan a custom sprite or is that an actual sprite that shows up if you kill Chun with that super? Legit never touched Morrigan in MvC.
It's peak Capcom soul, what do you think?
Too much SOUL to handle.
i wonder if this is tf or an outfit
The only chun sprites used in VS games were of alpha chun li, but the animations in morrigan super is exactly how.she does it ingame
I was under the impression MVC1 was the most popular one of the arcade games preMVC2.
>Is that Chunnigan a custom sprite
It's a custom sprite, I found the animation unsourced on some site a long time ago.
The secret characters in these game were a fucking joke aside from the actual unique joke character who can withstand onslaught 1st form.
Xmen vs Street Fighter is my fave, but this game is really close behind it.
Of course it did well, MvC2 wouldn't have happened otherwise.
It's the most popular of the MvC arcade games next to X-Men vs Street Fighter.
>Disney
it was marvel that caused that, Disney was so hands off with marvel that they literally last year fully absorbed marvel because of how bad Ike was at managing the company. All Disney had control over before last year was the mcu
I don't know how people feel about X-Men COTA and MSH but I used to play the hell out of them and enjoy them just as much as I do the MvC titles.
oh damn.
I have never enjoyed the Marvel characters in anything as much as I've enjoyed them in these games.
my bowling alley had this, I forgot how mind blowing it looked at the time.
Still wishing for a non Marvel VS game
