>leveling is an obsolete concept
>level scaling is good
>an rpg shouldn't be about progression, skill should be based on your gaming skills (lmao play esports if you want that)
>it's nice to for content you already are tired of to stay "relevant" (lmao why would i give a shit going back there even with scaling)
casual gamers are so fucking twisted in their mind, it fucking hurts. i really feel physical pain
Leveling is an obsolete concept

correct but I'm not watching your gay YouTube video or whatever that is
it just showed up when i looked for an imagie for "level scaling"
I play RPGs to have a break from skill-based games and enjoy slower paced story and dopamine from numbers going up. Scaling ruins everything and just results in padding the game with grind and nothing in return. I like power trip from one-shoting enemies with mere presence.
These are probably the same people who think sekiro needs an easy mode and only like level scaling because it spares their fragile eagle of not being able to beat a game without over leveling.
>>an rpg shouldn't be about progression, skill should be based on your gaming skills
Do people think that you are just born strong and quick or what
Level scaling is so fucking stupid. If you feel like you need to put it in your game then maybe it shouldn't have leveling in the first place.
Putting it in MMOs was cancer and destroyed unique zone identity
Like I want that rat to destroy my rectum
Did level scaling make us run out of internet?
That rat is really hot
What is the benefit to leveling systems that isn’t provided by level scaling?
Are you disparaging the OP? It’s a bit tricky to determine.
Level scaling is good. It prevents the player from grinding and offers free open exploration so the game is always challenging. Saga does this very well.
>game publishes new content
>throw out all old content because only the newest content isn’t now broken by your rising power level
Hmm, is this actually what you are advocating for?
i want to smash your head, i wouldn't want to if people like you would have their own baby games, but sadly you seem to be the majority of gamers so you ruined all games.
>What is the benefit to leveling systems that isn’t provided by level scaling?
Explain why rats become stronger when I turn into Arnold Schwarzenegger
You've been conditioned by WoW to think that there's no alternative to this, jesus christ
WHO THE HELL GOES INTO LOWER LEVEL AREAS????
even with level scaling nobody wants to go back you fucking moron
Haven't played Saga but all the games I've played that have it are bad.
It's not the same thing but DaS2 let's you advance areas to NG+ (and so on) and that is good because it's up to the player to do that if they want more challenge and better drops.
SO THERE YOU ARE
RPGs should be about both skill and progression. I know it's kind of a hot button game right now but RPGs should take notes from Paper Mario:
There should be a stat you can dump points into when you level up that lets you focus on making more gimmicky and absurd builds rather than becoming outright stronger.
But that's clearly not what they meant by what they said; level scaling is retarded and this is clear to everyone with a brain, so as usual, fuck Extra Credits.
I'm sorry you are a casual.
Wow! Wait a second, is this a veiled World of Warcraft thread? Are you some butthurt elf that laments no longer being able to solo old raids in a month as they introduce scaling? Because no other game ‘introduces’ scaling like you are talking about.
OP HAS TO DENY THIS RIGHT NOW OR THE THREAD IS OVER. FAILURE TO DENY WILL MEAN THAT I’M BANG ON THE MONEY. HAHAHA!
why would level scaling prevent grinding? it actually gives you more exp.
>preferring skill to level progression makes you a casual
Weird opinion
>extra creditz
Get outta here, by posting this thread you're contributing to the over consumption of precious bandwidth! Don't you know that we're running out of internet?! Be careful how you spend what little we have left!
How does level scaling give you more exp? In Saga games you gain BP upon finishing battles and if you grind away random fights you're going to ecounter incredibly dangerous foes without good equipment.
No.
Removing the leveling system entirely is a better design idea than adding level scaling.
How could you post that and make a thread???? Don't you know we're running out of internet!!!
The moment you remove leveling you take away one of the fundamental elements of a rpg.
because the higher the enemy level is the more exp you get.
also level scaling is necessary in saga since the games are open world with multiple different objectives you can tackle in any order you want to. it doesnt make sense to have level scaling in a linear jrpg.
>SaGa
>Level scaling
Don't confuse level scaling with battle ranks. If you grind in SaGa you don't fight level 100 rats, instead you fight new enemies that are way more powerful which are pretty much different and that includes what Techs you will be able to spark with them and what items they drop. Also, depending on the game, battle ranks work differently so sometimes is actually good to grind in SaGa games. Another neat thing about SaGa is that grinding "levels" is not really that tedious, you can reach high weapon levels and HP/MP/TP by playing the game normally most of the time
RPGs were traditionally a way to implement pen and paper like mechanics into a videogame format. Leveling should ALWAYS feel like progression if not a way for weaker players to circumvent something too challenging. Level scaling is immersion breaking and defeats the purpose of levels entirely. At that point just have the game center around talent trees with static damage numbers so there are far less contrivances. Leveling can still play a part in modern game design if devs got it through their fucking skulls that not everything in the world needs to be a sidegrade or resource. Sometimes the player just wants to feel like they earned something other than just another option.
>Why are rats stronger
Gameplay, balance and lore purposes? In what weird reality would a human die while fighting a rat? Turn this argument on it’s head for a second and replace this with a level 1 human. Can some high level human seriously just stand and get stabbed over and over by another human and not care because of their HP? One of these solutions ticks all the boxes, want to guess which?
Not just lower levels - all content becomes obsolete in your logic. So when one new level gets added to your video game (which is obviously WoW now that you’ve shown your hand) apparently you should only play that level until the next level comes out. So I ask again, is that what you want?
Remember sweaty, ignoring me just means I’ve savaged your arguements. ;)
Literally take leveling off. SaGa does it, but SaGa does a whole bunch of shit expressly for the purpose of being as non traditional an rpg as possible.
Isn't this the same guy who said games should be more expensive and micro transactions are good? Also his defense of BFV was "hurrr nazis bad don't normalize them" what a retard
The moment you introduce level scaling you take away one of the fundamental elements of a rpg
>no matter how long you play or how powerful your character gets, the enemies will always be just strong enough to overpower him
pisses me off desu.
devs add new content to a game because it will add to the level cap. without adding more levels your game becomes obsolete.
trying to revamp old areas to make your game an infinite cash grab without having to add more content is just a scam.
There are a lot of rpgs like that where you can make gimmicky setups. The moment a rpg stops venturing into mechanical skills with a focus on player skills it stops being a rpg.
... So Paper Mario was never an RPG to begin with? That doesn't sound right, user.
