Just starting to get into this game. Is there any reason NOT to pick ranged? At first, you'd think it's a noob trap, since bullets are hard to find. But you can make a sling out of nothing but a shitty shirt and some thread, and pebbles and stones are everywhere. Unlike with Melee, I don't get disemboweled by dogmen while trying to fight them, since I can just launch rocks at them until they get knocked out.

>not combining melee and strong to just smash dogmen with a crowbar like a chad
Honestly imo, guns aren't that useful unless you get your hands on a shotgun or hunting rifle. And the revolvers and bow &a arrows just don't put people (and dogmen) down fast enough. One huge benifit though is that you don't have to deal with those goddamn blue frog bastards anymore.
My go to set up is always strong + tough. Puts fuckers down really well
you've been running any mods with your game user? Wished this game had a bigger modding community.
You know you can make a sling no matter what, right?
Also ranged lets you craft a crude bow, which is much better.
Yeah it's not bad super early game but you always could rush the ATN camp and get one of their bows. I think their's are stronger
Yeah, I love the ATN gear. I always hang near the camp, go hunting dogmen in the north since that's where they spawn and make a fortune off selling their shit. Fun game.
Also you just posted my edit lmao. Thanks
What is this game? Autistic min-max or some crazy RP?
its the former and neither at the same time since you can't do any of those things
Futuristic Neo-Apocalyptic game set in Detroit that incorporates sci-fi and folk lore. Super realistic survival with light story elements. Pretty fun.

Fun isometric turn based survival game. Worth trying out the demo
Their war clubs are too much fun. Nothing like bashing in the heads of those retard cannibals
Love the game, but the RNG can be so absurdly unfair at times that ranged vs. melee doesn't really matter. You can have the most badass sniper in the world and get killed in your sleep even though your camping in a secluded area, after hiding your tracks and setting up tripwire alarms. Same for melee, I've had a maxed out melee character get killed because of a knockout punch by a bad mutha before even though I was uninjured and already stabbed him in the chest with a spear. Shit is entirely dependant on luck of the dice.
Is there any downside to killing innocent survivors? I feel a little bad when I’m stabbing them to death after they tried to have a friendly chat, but if I see a guy with a backpack and no weapons, I just can’t guarantee his safety, you know?
I really liked NEO Scavenger. Have they updated it at all? I really wish there was an expansion pack or something, because the core gameplay was really good.
>innocents
Unless it's one of those faction guys you're good. Otherwise they'll hunt you down.
There are two major mods that add fuckloads of content, mighty mod of doom (MMoD for short) and extended neo scavanger. Unfortunately these two mods aren't compatible with each other
>tried the demo
>hated it, felt super barebones and not in a good way, just lazy
>found out it's like 5-6 years old
why would they do that? Why have a demo if it's some really old, crash prone and buggy version of the game?
I nearly missed out on this game because of it.
Shit's honestly kinda fucking ridiculous. It's goes both ways sometimes I remember absolutely clubbing a dogman to death without landing a scrach on me
which one do you prefer any why?
Honestly I enjoy neo scav extended mainly cus I have more experience with that mod (been playing it for well over 2 years) it adds more functionality to some of the perks and overhauls a good chunk of the game. If you check the devolper's website you can check out those mods and a few others. The only thing I wished is that the modding scene was a little bit bigger because I couldn't imagine what other people could do with this game
Yeah. I don't even consider the RNG a bad thing necessarily as it's what keeps each playthrough exciting. It's just that it really doesn't matter what play style you choose, the dice will ultimately decide your fate. You can certainly improve your odds, but at the end of the day you can do everything perfectly and still get sodomized.
Has anyone here survived a year? The furthest I made was to early winter, I always seem to die early of bad luck or bad decisions
I hate how much it can fuck you early game. Like didn't get some decent clothes before nightfall? Get fucked by hypothermia dude.
here's a link to all the released mods people made for the game

Yeah I had a character that lasted almost two years. Was playing a ranger hacker and got lucky early on with some expensive computer documents which allowed me to fully deck myself out and have a lifetime of ammunition. Tried replicating it multiple times but never had the same success. I've finished the game a dozen or more times, but that was the only time I set out for long term survival and actually achieved it.
thanks man
That's amazing. I was thinking about downloading a winter mod so that the late game doesn't feel so monotonous, cus I'd imagine it's gets pretty boreing when you're stacked with cash and can live off pretty comfortably
hey I'm just glad you're playing the game.
Ranged is underwhelming.
Melee + Tough + Strong for easy mode.
Combine with Metabolism and Myopia flaws so you can get Botany for easy food and tannin tea.
