I want to boycott XBL Gold, PS+, and NSO. Maybe even sue them for these services.
We all know that paid online is a scam and anticonsumer, and an archaic business practice that should've died with the original Xbox. But nobody ever maintained momentum, nobody stayed angry, we just became complacent because we either had no choice or moved to PC.
In the modern day, there is no reason for these services to still exist. For better or worse, the internet has become more ingrained into our lives than ever, which makes the existence of paid online all the more scummy. If Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft wanted to keep these services' other features still paid, that would be fine by me, but the fact of the matter is that online multiplayer and chatting with friends should be a basic right to every single player. If PC can have that and more for free and in arguably better quality, then there's no reason consoles shouldn't.
Hell, the way these companies strongarm and manipulate us into paying for it HAS to be breaking some sort of antimonopoly law, is there any chance at all that we could sue them? Even if not, we've got to hold a fucking proper boycott and stay mad. We can't lose steam and we can't get complacent, we HAVE to apply pressure for a long time. Is there any way we could do this? I need your help, WE need everyone's help.
Paid Online

.
there’s no alternative to console. So the choice is to pay or don’t play with friends and since the mainstream mostly uses consoles for gaming they’ll pay for the service and any other extras (discounts, free games, etc) every month or year.
Not enough people care enough since the payment seems small (even if the cost will add up over time). They just treat it as another bill.
I know, I'm suggesting that it's time for us to boycott it for a reason.
I would care more if it wasn't 5 cents a day for NSO
this is what us pc chads have been saying for years, too late paypiggy, you're stuck with online now.
20 dollars a year is still bullshit considering that they have no servers and that PC gets it all for FREE. Nintendo has been FREE for the same quality of online for years.
Stop being complacent.
You've got my vote dude, never ever paid for a online service, but I doubt it'll ever stop since sycophants like will keep buying into it.
You do understand servers cost money, right? Just because you bought a game doest mean the company has to pay out of pocket to run a server for you. It's not much regardless, you cheap fuck
PC is free and has better online.
Didn't cost them much during the Wii - Wii U time.
do you even know anything you're talking about? honestly curious
it still cost them, they just didn't charge us
They should give to users the tools to create servers, then.
Hahahaha get fucked consolefags
>pay for online
>servers are still shit
I can't imagine being a consolefag
Hence me saying "much". So why why do the console owners need to pay for it now?
The effort spent writing this post could have given you all the funds you need for a year's worth of each
>be PC chad
>never have to pay for games
>never have to pay to play online
>emulation keeps getting better over the years
Feels good
XBL doesn't have a pc equivalent
I think part of the problem is the perception of the service being free or paid. PC doesn't get it for free and consoles also never had it for free. Any cost, including servers over the life time of the game, would be considered when making a budget for developing the game to balance against anticipated profit from sales. Since they didn't remove the cost of servers from the price of the base game, the new fee is just being stacked on top of it. We should not be demanding to have companies run servers for free, but instead demanding that we will not pay extra.
That's all you've got?
Here's the thing, you're not going to be able to convince anyone in any government that a company should be required to provide something to you for free. Your best case scenario probably will result in consoles becoming more open, so that you can get your online services from people other than the console manufacturer. However we're a long ways away from anything like that actually happening.
Yes thank you, that is what I meant to say. Of course servers cost money to maintain, just not the ludicrous extra fees we're being forced to pay.
You can shitpost all you like, but that's not going to improve the situation. Even if it doesn't affect you now, if we grow too complacent and let this grow out of hand, soon enough we'll have Steam, the Microsoft Store, and every other PC platform forcing extra Online fees down your throats.
And you'll have no choice but to eat it up - yknow why? "Because consoles already have it, it's only fair that PC does too... those servers cost money broo...."
We all love video games, it's only fair that we help eachother out so we can all have a better experience.
this but only boycott NSO because it's a legitimate fucking scam compared to the other two
Well like it was already noted, it's not free, it's just an extra fee for something that we're already paying the money for, and an unnecessary one that we're forced to pay only because we have to. It's a monopoly.
Yes, I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to politics or laws, but there has to be SOMEthing that could be done.
The other two are exactly the same as NSO, they just have slightly more extras to sweeten the pot.
The fact of the matter is that you're NOT paying for those extra features - you're buying it only because you want online play.
If they wanted those other features to still be a paid service, then so be it, I'm fine with that. But online play by itself should not have an extra fee attached, no exceptions.
I really wish we didn't live in a culture that deifies companies and thinks everything they do is good like a goddamn cult, but with the plentiful number of examples in this thread, that's just the pathetic reality we live in.
I make $1,000/wk after taxes so I really couldn’t care less.
We live in a capitalistic society, not a democratic one.
>Maybe even sue them for these services.
Good luck with that.
>Even if it doesn't affect you now, if we grow too complacent and let this grow out of hand, soon enough we'll have Steam, the Microsoft Store, and every other PC platform forcing extra Online fees down your throats
You should google games for window live.
Devs already tried paid online with PC and didn't work.
PCs are for spreadsheets, user. If you aren’t compartmentalizing your computing I don’t know what to tell you.
So that means it's A-OK!
Trump 2000, didn't work the first time, waited a bit, second attempt, boom, president.
