There's no need for them to move to a different timeline, because theirs, the Remake timeline, isn't on the same course as the original at that point. (Not that it was exactly from the start either, with dimension hopping Sephiroth shitting all over the Remake timline)

My theory was that they are one enity, not different versions, they hop between time lines making sure everything is happening as it should, so getting destroyed once they are gone altogether. The other theory I seen was that because they were destroyed outside of time (the portal where you fight Sephiroth) it caused them to be erased from existence and made the other versions in different time lines spontaneously combust

All will be explained in the next game you braindead faggot.
