Why would you want it explained. Sephiroth and Jenova's and a bunch more stuff entire initial appeal was mystery. Even Aerith and Cloud. And Mako and Modgar and Shinra etc. The entire game just throws us in the world and explains it later. It was the exact antithesis to waking up in your hometown house RPG.
And we know it was only part 1 so of course they're not going to give away everything and keep the mystery going.
