Playing online is only frustrating because of the lag and input delay. Playing on the couch I can beat my friend with 3 lives remaining. Over online he schools me because my inputs are delayed. If you only practice online you will get better and used to the input delays though.

Honestly, I can empathize with OP. I play online with all items on, four players, hazards and all that and there are still absolute tryhards in every match. I don't get why they don't just play 1v1 ranked instead of dunking on punks like me. And all the tryhards are FE characters or Joker.

Most people tend to. It's just they get lumped in because of how actually terrible matchmaking is in this game. The system intentionally matches up people with heavily conflicting rulesets and swaps between them for some reason, for this ass shit compromise.

Quickplay isnt that bad of a system. But if there were ways to make it stricter and if there were ways to set your most preferred over least preferred (I would rather take a 5 minute timed match with no stocks over a 3 stock 1 minute, or however low you can go) and if GSP was separated per ruleset (and functioned like a real leaderboard)

The thing that blows my mind is that For Glory and For Fun was a really good system in Sm4sh and worked just fine. Then they fucked it up in Ultimate, no idea why.

Imagine if there was For Glory and For Fun by default but you could go into the main menu settings and set up your own highly customizable presets. I.e set a strictness scale on 1-10 on preferrability, and set most valued parts of the ruleset (i.e no items preferred over having no stocks) and to play with GSP or without GSP. And you could name them. Autist idea I know but god it would amazing.
It may shock you but some people are so fucking stupid they refuse to practice and refuse to play "Casual" game modes.
I know a guy that hops on a shooter like 2 times a week and ONLY hops on when he can roll in a 4+ stack, and ONLY wants to play if they're playing ranked.
Also refuses to watch any videos with common techniques he can't pull off and when you grill him for having shitty decision making/not knowing how to do a tactic he will ask you to demonstrate to him in a ranked match because he refuses to play non ranked and won't watch videos.
And then he wonders why everyone makes fun of him and won't play with him.
