About to start pic related. Got any good advice for an smt noob?

I personally find it better to focus the MC on either magic or physical damage. Spreading your points out too much across both makes him kind of weak at the end, but if you focus on one or the other you'll be slapping bosses' shit.
Other than that not much you can't figure out on your own, it's a great game if a bit grindy. Enjoy.

Use your buffs and debuffs. Seriously. De/Buffs and ailments don't usually work in other games but they are a massive help in SMT games. It makes the game that much easier. Don't look at Tarukaja or Rakunda and go "Oh, this raises my attack and this lowers the enemy defense, that's useless". It's not. It's literally the difference between life and death. If you don't at least debuff enemies, fights could take twice as long as they need to. Focus and Charge are amazing.
Do not neglect buffs or you will come out of this wanting to kill yourself.

Pixie is good

Okay thanks I'll make sure to remember this then.

Once you delete moves from Demifiend's skillset, you can't get them again, so don't delete Focus and Fog Breath.
Gabriel Martin
Use buffs and debuffs, save often and don't get attached to any demons in particular
Save often is worth mentioning twice
Parker Green
Sukukaja, Sukunda, Fog Breath, War Cry, fuse Daisojou, win game.
Eli Roberts
Don't play it like Pokemon or any other kind of monster-collecting RPG. Fuse your demons into better demons frequently, or you'll get clapped constantly. Battles are often won or lost by bringing the right or wrong demons in.
Also use buffs retard
Hudson Wood
Adding on to what that guy said, there are stages of buffs. It's been about 10 years, but if I recall you could use a buff/debuff 3 times to maximize it. It's cool because if you debuff an enemy down to -3 and they use a buff, they only go up to -2 instead of going to +1. Normal mode is probably fine, but in hard mode against some of the end bosses in the True Demon Ending I had to use a pen and paper to track the stages each of my buffs and debuffs were at and how much damage I had done each turn because the battles are BRUTAL.

Why sukunda when you already have fog breath?

also dont treat demons like pokemon, they are replaceable trash and should swapped out sometime after they learned all their skills, sometimes before that too.
Ryder Morris
Good fucking luck to you. Hope you like random dice roll mechanics underlying every single system.
Adrian Gonzalez
Just a few smaller tips
>keep track of the pixie you get in the beginning, if you fuse it, remember who you fused it into.
>fiend demons are some of the best demons you can fuse so go out of your way to find and beat them so you can fuse them
>try to fight bosses on a new kagatsuchi so they're less aggressive
>get Fog Breath right away, you'll need it for the casual filter about 3 hours in
>Strength is the best build
Mason Roberts
For bosses like Matador so you can debuff him 3 times so he doesn't recast his buffs

Go in blind and get raped

everyone said use buffs retard which is true, but it's also important to realize the importance of the fact that passing a turn "only uses half the turn" (experiment to find out what exactly that means)
Parker Morales
This game heavily favors physical builds for your MC so build that (your first mandatory keeper skill is focus) if you plan on going for the true ending.
Buffs and debuffs are overpowered and will drastically change the tide of battle, especially sukukaja/sukunda.
Save before ever switching to a magatama that is weak to expel or death. This game is fucking cruel with instant death attacks and will fuck you over every chance it gets with them.
Fuse often, don't keep a demon for very long after it has learned every skill it has available (unless you're at the end of the game or it talks about "signs of change" being seen).
Understand and abuse the press turn system whenever possible. Aside from buffs this will always be the deciding factor in whether or not you'll succeed in any given battle.
Good luck man, it's a fun game.

Play Hardtype instead. It's a bit harder but has a lot of qol changes. Like making geis available in shop. Whoever designed that puzzle game can burn in hell.

Magic is better
Camden Jackson
the pixie thing is easy: never release the topmost demon on your list (else you miss a missable that isn't even that good to begin with)
Ayden Garcia
Why the fuck would you use magic in a game where the MC gets pierce and freikugel?
Owen Sullivan
magic gets you more turns and you get tornado insanely early, magic is perfectly fine
Hunter Cooper
Download the Raidou version and English patch. Dante is a fag.
Mason Hill
Magic's top tier in IV mate, not Nocturne
John Ortiz
Prepare to get completely rekt by some bosses on your first attempt.
Use buffs and debuffs.
Be prepared to grind.
Daisoujou is OP as fuck.
Dante sucks dick.
Alexander Wright
I'm almost finished with the first one and it's kinda shit in terms of story and writing?
Everything else is charming and I like it a fair bit, but the story is goofy as fuck with the giant robot shit and the writing is pretty lackluster. The pacing is also awkward.
