People get obsessed about how a game should live up to its franchise name in later games rather than actually judging a game for what it does right and wrong. People who hate it are looking at it as a Fallout game, not a video game. It's a good game, but not a good Fallout game.

The combat may be better than previous games but the problem is that the combat is the only thing there. Roleplaying has been absolutely gutted and the quests are awful.
Look at the main story.
>Kill the Triggermen and save Nick
>Kill Kellogg and get his brain implants

It’s just a shooting gallery where you go in and kill things with the weapon your character’s perks benefit the most. It’s a far cry from the older games where quests had multiple ways of accomplishing them based on your character’s skills and stats, and sometimes you didn’t even have to kill anyone.

It was a fun game, a good game even. It just wasn't a great Fallout game. All the shit you're looking for in a Fallout experience is going to be watered down or missing entirely but it's enjoyable if you know what you're getting into.

It's a pretty fun looter shooter stuck in a franchise that's not made for that kind of game. Also, lots of budget and development time stuffed into things that were very much NOT worth it, like voice acting and the terrible settlement building;
It is definitely the best Borderlands game ever made, though.

It's neither a good game nor a good Fallout game. It's kind of the epitome of 5 out 10. It's not the worst game ever, but why would you bother with it when there are literally HUNDREDS of better games out there?
