Why not? I checked, Beginnings is the only Nintendo published game aside from Mach Rider and the Light Gun games that was on the Wii U virtual console but not the online service. Earthbound was on the SNES Classic and it's the only game on there not on SNES online that doesn't have some rights issue or third party associated with it. What is the hold up?

They'll both come out on June 5th to the seitch virtual console, and there'll be an announcement that GBA games are coming next, with mother 3 getting a release.
And finally they'll have itoi make an announcement that the first and second game will be getting remade for switch and release next year for the 15th anniversary of mother 3.

That is a little much but at the same time I don't know if I can see Nintendo looking at the massive success of something like Undertale and saying "Yep, totally no interest in anything like Earthbound".
Of course this totally means we don't actually get Mother 3 and instead get something like an Earthbound remake because Nintendo is Nintendo.

If Mother 3 was going to be localized it would have happened back when the Wii-U was a thing following the success of beginnings. The fact it didn't probably means beginnings didn't sell enough to justify putting man power on 3.
