No, if anything the last trailer gave me an impression of a mix between Megami Tensei and SMT1, with the Protag and Heroine having some very heavy Nakajima and Yumiko vibes, and the contrast between modern and post-apocalyptic Tokyo.

No such thing as a good Chaos end. You cannot have both unlimited freedom and a good end because the concept of Chaos only brings instability and conflict.

SMT was always about retarded plot armor of the MC being a reincarnation or a messiah. This time that plot armor is just friendship instead which is better because the characters get more fleshed out instead of being cardboard. Also, you can go down a route where power of friendship is subverted.

The characters were still cardboard cutouts though; the only two who underwent any meaningful growth were Navarre and Gaston.

Not that user but Asahi actually gets good development if you revive her as your Goddess from a story development perspective.
You die at the start, get revived by a God to save Asahi and then spend the game bending over backwards to keep her safe.
Then you get to the Anarchy end, she dies, you revive her and then she spends the rest of her time bending over backwards to keep you safe.
It's perfect but requires you to play the game on the rails that Atlus set for the characters.

I didn't even mention your precious combat.
You people act like ANY SMT game isn't trivialized by years of learning all the demons and their affinities through osmosis. The greatest combat system in the world can't fix that for you.
If you were an actual fan of the combat you'd be demanding more novelty, not holding up a sequel of a sequel that reuses damn near everything of its predecessor.

Nanadhi is both of those, they felt the need to tack on the "friendship" plot armor on top of that which is what makes the peace route so downright embarassing

It's a shame really. I wish SMT1, SMT2, SMT3 and SMT4 let me kill my friends. It would make those games way better.

Some of them were, but it's refreshing to see actual characters interacting and developing in an SMT game instead of being stoic edgelords. Especially since these games have so much dialogue anyway, might as well give them personality. Apocalypse is far from well written but I would prefer its goofiness over the previous cardboard trash where robotic talking heads would spew vague nothings at each other to make pseuds wank over it. It's just a better experience overall, but even if the characters weren't Apocalypse has better combat and bosses anyway.

The whole game is actually a subversion of the power of friendship. Your friends are basically parasites, which the demon residing in your head points out over and over again. And if you DON'T kill them, you don't save the world. You accomplish nothing. YHVH's dead, but nobody in the game said he couldn't die - the problem is that he never stays dead, and that's a big enough problem that a group of demons basically built a gigantic lifeboat so they could take humanity and bail on the universe to create one where YHVH couldn't exist and he wouldn't genocide everyone over and over.

The Divine Powers state that fighting YHVH directly is pointless. The White state that fighting YHVH is pointless. Dagda says fighting YHVH is pointless. The Bonds route where you defeat YHVH with ~*The Power Of Friendship*~ accomplishes jack shit because you've just killed him, and done nothing to stop him coming back. Meanwhile, the Massacre route where you kill your friends and use their souls to complete the Divine Powers plan of evacuating the universe on humanity's terms rather than theirs is the only ending that ensures that humanity won't be genocided for a fifth time.

tl;dr the power of friendship stuff is a trap. If you're dumb enough to fall for it you've accomplished nothing and doomed humanity. It's also deliberately meant to be irritating so you'll be encouraged to kill them and save humanity.

It's explained in DLC that the citizens of Mikado are genetically modified by the archangels. They have a special gene in them that turns them into monstrous cannibals if an archangel is near, or they culturally devwlop past a certain point. 90% of current Mikado populace has it, which is why when lillith passed out books in 4, they turned into demons. In the 4A DLC, the entire fucking city turns into a demonic hellhole

Don't be afraid to use a guide for sidequest.

Killing your friends has never been new to SMT you filthy secondary. It's always been done as "We're at irreconcilable differences in terms of our goals, and in order to accomplish what we want someone's going to have to die"
