New Darkstalkers coming in 2021. Gonna be for PS5, Xbox Series X and Steam as well as PS4 and XBone. However it won't be a fighting game but an RE style action game using the RE engine and assets from the RE remakes. It will be used to gauge interest in the IP and I guess potentially build the audience by trying to pull in the RE crowd.
Apparently it will follow the structure of that game Nocturne by Terminal Reality. Where it's a bunch of standalone chapters that's focused on a different character. The player character is like a paranormal investigator, who in his investigations finds himself mixed up in different scenarios with a specific Darkstalker.
In one investigation, he ends up in over his head and is aided by one of the heroic characters I believe either Donovan or Hsien-Ko. In another I believe the investigator is chased by Morrigan after she takes an interest in him and she ends up chasing him relentlessly like Mr.X or Nemesis do in the REmakes for the entire scenario. And during another while the player investigates a dangerous Darkstalker he ends up running into BB Hood who is also hunting for the creature and due to her dangerous methods and attitude, she ends up putting the player in more danger than the monster does.
I suppose they feel if they market it like an RE the resulting sales would give them the incentive to make a new Darkstalkers fighting game. But I'm pretty sure it will only make the current fans mad while probably not bringing in that many new fans. And even if it does it will only make the new fans upset when the next game returns to being a fighter.
Spoilers, no one actually likes Dalkstalkers. They like Morrigan, or to be more specific, masturbating to her. The games are otherwise completely forgettable.

As big as a modern RE character model will allow.
I'm a fan but it definitely seems like a lightning in a bottle idea from the era it was made in. I don't think the talent or passion it was make with back then will be able to be brought back again. Also Lilith best girl
>Nocturne Great game but I doubt anyone working at Capcom has even heard about it.

I always preferred Felicia and later Lilith.

It's just the closest game I could compare it too off the top of my head, it's not gonna play anything like Nocturne outside of just being an episodic horror game.
That sounds retarded for many many reasons, but one among them is that if they were ever going to use the universe of a fighting game to change genre in an attempt to revitalize and reintroduce it they should have made a proper action RPG out of Red Earth.
A gauntlet styled Red Earth style game with 4 player co-op does sound pretty dope or at the very least a port of Red Earth on consoles already with some tweaks like being able to play as the bosses or even save level presets. But Red Earth is definitely less clamored for than Darkstalkers is.
>But Red Earth is definitely less clamored for than Darkstalkers is That's partly why it would work. People are aware and demanding enough of a new Darkstalkers (me included, at least to an extent, I liked the games) that bringing them back in a different genre would do much more harm than good since there's been such a long gap. But Red Earth is not well known, already was experimental in merging RPG concepts with a fighting game and had a fantastically underutilized setting. Imagine something like Dragon's Dogma but with a more painterly, parchment artstyle, much more fleshed out movesets along with being able to have many more moves on at once, and both co-op and versus modes. And Tessa.
I'd love a new Red Earth too or even at the least giving some of the characters some appearances in a new crossover. A majority of the cast would actually fit quite well in a new traditional Darkstalkers. Also Tessa is a babe. Shame Capcom is so unwilling to work with any of their obscure IPs even ones that are RE adjacent like Dino Crisis.
>However it won't be a fighting game but an RE style action game using the RE engine and assets from the RE remakes. It will be used to gauge interest in the IP and I guess potentially build the audience by trying to pull in the RE crowd. If this is true they can fucking keep it.
