Have any gamers in their late 20's or early 30's started to feel the corrosion of time start to decrease your ability in games? Have you felt it physically, mentally, or both?
If you can, pinpoint the exact year that your gaming skill peaked before it declined.
I'm 25 and I feel I'm better than ever at games, and my physical and mental performance is likewise the best it has ever been.
Can't recall if it's always been like this, I can't move my fingers fast enough to preform those autisticly high speed techniques constantly when playing Smash Bros. It's mentally straining when I even try. I also think my reaction time might be on the decline since nearing 30.
Briefly in my mid-20's, then I got better at games, and now I'm better at FPS games than I was as a teenager. I think it just has to do with getting older and knowing how to take care of your body better. I'm in better physical shape than I was as a teenager too, and I eat healthier.

good pro athletes mentally can still go into their late 30's/early 40's. The body wears down way before the mind in terms of strategy, reflexes, and decision-making.
If for years you played Starcraft 2 at a high level or run retardedly high APM rotations in an MMORPG, then you're fucked. But if you play casually or on a controller then unless you get 0 exercise, 0 sun, 0 vegetables in your diet, or get 3 hours of sleep a night for a long time, then you should be fine.
Reactions are still fine at 28, but I honestly feel like I've slowly become retarded, to the point where I legitimately worry that something's wrong with me. My memory is shit and I have trouble learning and understanding things in general.

I actually had to test my reflexes when I started playing Sekiro because I was getting rekt. I'm within normal range and it turns out the problem was my controller.
Jordan Ortiz
i call it Zig Forumstardation
Jose Gonzalez
I've been having random muscle twitches all over and sometimes general weakness in my left arm and have been scared as shit that it's early ALS, despite the extremely low probability of that as a sedentary loser at 26.

32 here The kids in the local FGC and Smash scenes seem like they have superhuman reflexes, I swear to god. They can react to shit I feel like I can barely see.
I still bop 90% of them based on experience and mostly lose to other old heads, the actually good zoomers bury me though
Ayden Rivera
my raw autistic mental power and reaction speed has declined a little bit but my mental control has gotten so much better that it's nothing and i'm effectively much better. my mental power was ridiculous when i was younger but since i could barely grasp it that didn't count for much.

Funny to hear people on this board acting like being near 30 is getting old. I still look at 20 somethings as kids.
If you are having problems when you are that young then go see a doctor since it is not normal.
this is a myth. the decline is all mental either caused by depression/real life priorities or you had dunning kruger and were never good. There are fighting game players who are 30 and are still playing, same with arena fpses.
Cameron White
If you think your mental speed, coordination, or reaction time is deteriorating and you're late 20's/early 30's then you're probably just bored and not as motivated as when you were younger. Video games are not demanding enough, and the deterioration not nearly drastic enough at that age to really make a difference. If you were an all-american wrestler or something genuinely extremely physically and mentally demanding then worrying about decline at this age would make sense, but not for videogames, especially if you're not a pro player.
Christian Myers
that actually is normal, your body starts deteriorating in your late 20s. You might get stronger/stockier around 30, but you'll gradually start losing fine motor skill and reaction time
Aaron James
it's not even a doctor question most of the time, lots of people just have terrible lifestyles where they're just jacked into the virtual world while completely neglecting their bodies. pro tip your body and mind are the same shit. gaming on a runner's high is orgasmic and you will destroy.
Jeremiah Adams
sorry this is a myth, show me 10 studies that support this conclusion

I'm not sure, when I started playing Apex Legends last year I had kind of a harsh awakening since I was terrible at the game at first and while I massively improved, I'm just an above average player This contrasted my past experiences in shooters because I used to be pretty good at them, CoD, Tf2, Cs, you name it I recently tried out Cs:Go for the first time and got fucked up there as well I don't know if it's just down to aging (I'm 26) or if it's a mix of general tiredness, age and drug use
Liam Nelson
yeah its called depression
Aaron White
Nope. I've only gotten better both physically and mentally in my mid 30s. You don't actually see your peak until at least your 50s, at which point the best you can do is maintain rather than improve. You'd only decline earlier if you don't keep your ability honed.
Jose Davis
drugs will definitely do it. i'm a fan but you need to preserve a strong baseline and not be dependent on them. alcohol and weed especially will jack up your abilities if you push it.
Andrew Gonzalez
ur just not good man. you think fchamp or daigo or yipes would get bodied by no name zoomers?
Logan Young
I play a lot less video games now so it's really hard to tell if it's just lack of practice or aging, but I still feel like I do well.
Asher Hernandez
I stopped aging about 15 years ago so I'm still the best at video games.
The only change is that I have less tolerance for bullshit and find gaming for long stretches of time to be generally very boring.
Jackson Bailey
actual boxers and muay thai fighters whoop the younger kids who aren't prodigies until they're like 45 years old and the 28 year old smash players on this board think they're too old and spent to hang with the new generation lol
Zachary Robinson
Nope, I'm 33 now and nothing has changed, but I make sure to exercise daily, almost only drink water and get good sleep every night.
Although I find that I just don't like video games anymore. They all seem like shit now.
