Why was it abandoned?

They wanted money.

They made Tower Unite on STEAM

>he doesn't know

This and that they were hitting the entity limits of the plaza so they couldn’t add the entire arcade they wanted.

But mostly they wanted money

They only ended up accomplishing the opposite. At this point, they're on the brink of bankruptcy due to their lack of development skills and game direction.
Yes, and it's inferior in every way.

they wanted money, towers unite is dead as fuck and the only people on are afking in the casino

I fucking hate it, I miss GMT so fucking much

Sounds like they kept their promise.

Never got to experience GMT. Based on how laggy some of the other custom GMod experiences are was this a laggy mess as well?

Everyone blames money for this and while I'm sure it was a factor I'd like to explain some things here too that people don't typically consider when this topic comes up. First of all, the source engine is a fucking buggy piece of shit engine that no one likes putting up with for custom content like this.

Garry's Mod has been using the Episode 2 branch which has a lot of edits for segmented loading, and the game itself has made numerous improvements for LUA scripting, but on the whole it's still heavily limited by Source, how it manages level loading, it's atrociously fucking bad netcode, poor optimization, and so on. By moving to a new engine, in this case Unity, many of the limits they had before are removed, and what once relied on hacks and tricks with the engine or GM's specific version of the engine are gone, replaced with something far simpler and more accessible.

Now, I totally understand why people would call them out on being greedy and shit with the way they keep DMCA'ing the tower addons and any methods to revive it. Competing with their game or not, they still have to protect their idea somehow. That also being said, they made a poor move by just 1:1 porting the game over and not doing more with Tower Unite on the new engine. So while there's definitely some sketchy undertones to what's happening, do remember that these devs are actual human beings too and that you should consider more about the situation before you just go "lol greedy"

If you pour your heart and soul into something good for fucking years upon years, why wouldn't you want money? Work with the Source engine for that long and trust me, you will almost demand payment for all the stupid bullshit you have to put up with.

devs wanted to make it something bigger since source was already at its limits
the problem was that they were incompetent, mac can't manage bigger projects for shit and lower devs are just as bad
nobody wants to pay for a standalone client to play a slightly expanded gmod gamemode
plus all the copyrighted content in the old gmod gave it a bunch of soul, just felt empty without it.
>just mod it in
no point when it's not on official servers
not at all. during peak hours people would rubberband a lot in the lobby but that was as bad as it got. gamemodes were fine since they were separate servers, although individual people could lag and that could ruin the experience for everyone else because of the lag compensation meme

Did they actually finally release the Arcade? How many years did it take?

wanna know a funny story?

people were so disappointed with TU, and so passionate about wanting gmt back, that a group of fans reverse engineered code for it in its entirety from the ground up and attempted to rehost it as "gmod tower classic". it was dmca'd within a matter of weeks by macdguy, the head of pixeltail games, because he didn't want to lose any money from people enjoying a rehost of his game.

later, the same group attempted to create another rehost that included original assets and content, called "gmod tower deluxe", thinking with the best intentions that the issue was that he didn't want gmtc to be a completely unchanged copy. it was dmca'd within THREE DAYS after over a year of work.

mac is a filthy jew and i hate him so much.

tl;dr two promising fan projects for gmt were both dmca'd by pixeltail because they're jews

here's one of the screens of gmtd

There was a time when people had jobs or were studying and just made mods in their spare time for fun without expecting payment in return.

>lol just keep doing shit for free for me wtf why would you want pay everyone else does it for free
that's stupid of you to even expect that

they couldn't rebrand as something that WASN'T gmt?
i hate macdjew and i don't think he should've DMCA'd but they were fucking asking for it, he's a kike of course he's going to go for the throat. could they really not to do anything to make it legally distinct?

also, unrelated, but does anyone know whatever happened to gmod cruise?

>make a popular server and see the potential to turn it into it's own fleshed out game
Wouldn't you?

he was citing the select few assets from lobby 1 that pixeltail made themselves the first time around, which recreating them would've defeated the purpose of a gmt rehost. gmtd was lobby 2, so it was entirely pixeltail assets

Attached: kart.png (1920x1080, 3.23M)

Nothing is expected, but if a bunch of guys were prepared to reverse engineer and host the game for free no money need change hands.

That's the thing, it isn't fleshed out. It was literally a 1-1 port. Hell, it was arguably worse since all the skins were missing and they didn't add workshop support for skins for a long ass time

fair
i just want something in the vein of GMT. it doesn't have to be a rehost, just a gamemode with the same concept, that way that hand rubbing merchant can't touch it

Attached: 1564533387109.jpg (550x383, 78.44K)

If there's anything I find bullshit it's that all the gamemodes except UCH weren't made standalone, I remember Mac telling off someone who was trying to revive Ball Race

you and me both, my man
but there is a rehost like gmtc up right now

bump

what ultimately sucks about TU is the development of the game goes at a fucking glacier's pace due to the dev team being a bunch of scatterbrained cunts that are going every which way OTHER than focusing on developing the core game further, instead just tacking more and more pointless shit on it
the game itself is alright for a bit but is fundamentally flawed in every way, devolving into a mindless grind for hours on end just so you can add shit to your condo with a now completely unintuitive inventory system
and a reminder:
>FOUR
>YEARS
>IN
>EARLY
>ACCESS
and it STILL isn't anywhere close to a finished product

blame macklin

Tower Unite is insanely based and people who say otherwise are just dumb niggers who maybe played it when it first came out if they played it at all. Now these people shit up this board with their uninformed opinions because they weren't expecting an early access game when they bought and played an early access game. Also just poorfags who are butthurt they have to pay a small amount of money to play now.

go back to not working on your game, macklin

Honestly, Tower Unite could redeem themselves with a few additions.

>Jazztronauts crossover
