The absence of interesting mechanics made it feel like an unusually long game. I haven't had such a flat RPG experience since Wolfenstein 3D

Tim and Leonard were hyped up as developers of the original fallout when in reality one was a programmer who made the fallout 1 engine and the other was just an artist, they have very little actual knowledge of game design

People thought it would have Sawyer-tier writing but Sawyer was working on Deadfire at the time. Deadfire ended up with the story Outer Worlds wanted to have.

No one is complaining about that though. Outer World's problem is it's fucking awful writing and that it's somehow less of a New Vegas game than FUCKING FALLOUT 4.

Poorly managed hype, mostly. This shit was heralded as the next New Vegas when it was first teased, and they did very little to correct that hype, so expectations didn't meet reality and everyone was disappointed.

No there's not. Outer Worlds doesn't present any kind of viable alternative to capitalism. Even the so called 'anarchist' sect in the game barely represent anarchism at all. As political satire OW is incredibly weak.

I didn't play it. It just looked like all the bad parts of Fallout - ugly environments but with a vomit of colour, stiff animations, shit physics, endless mindless looting, etc.

Let's also not forget the fact that it's an EGS timed exclusive and STILL not out on Steam yet.

Yes, everything. Cain and Boyarsky were there for all of 1s development, but left early on in 2s development. Caine contribution to 1 was a lot of the programming of the mechanics and Boyarsky did art, but their input never extended to designing or directing the game. If you really look at the facts it’s realky not a surprise that it failed, these two had zero experience in making the original fallouts what they were and are terrible at actually directing the development of a video game. What do you get when you tell a computer nerd and an artist (as well as some female writers) to make a game? You get outer worlds

The MSI tried to break off from the economic bloc but ended up having to return to it. Groundbreaker relied on the black market and crime.
