Is it worth it? Doing all the chapter one stories is such a slog, i already have done three of them but everytime it is just endless blah blah and horrible and 'long' boring mmo like boss fights.

I thought it would be a tribute to old JRPGs.

I mean yeah, it gets more fun later. But it's still awkward. For having 8 characters, it's one of the loneliest RPGs you'll ever play. Imagine eight separate games with 1 party member, all smashed into one.

I still had fun though. Class shenanigans and what-not.

Extremely wasted potential on the story and party interactions but it's some of the most interesting turn based combat in the genre in my opinion.

If you don't like turn-based JRPGs for their combat don't bother. I happen to love abusing the hidden jobs and their broken abilities but if you're in this for the characters or story then look elsewhere, the game is a massive waste of potential in regards to those aspects.

it has some problems, but if you don't dismantle bosses in like 5 turns it means you have to play better.

>Worth it
No, not really apart from the stellar music and sprites Octopath is the platonic ideal of a 5/10 game.

>If you don't like turn-based JRPGs for their combat don't bother.

I love turn based JRPGs oder dungeon crawlers, but everything in Octopath Traveler seems so sluggish, especially the combat.

The Kingdom of Amalur of JRPGs?

It's a bit slow at the start, especially when you don't have a full party. But once you get Cyrus you'll be slapping shit left and right with ease.

>but if you're in this for the characters or story
So much wasted potential, considering more than half the casts stories involve dealing with shady conspiracies you'd assume they'd be connected. Feels like the game was originally going to have one central story but someone decided to split everything up to pad the game out

No, play xenoblade 2 if you want an actually good jrpg on switch

>Cyrus
Olberic too, his multi-hit spear move is broken

Yeah, it almost feels like half a game as far as the narrative goes. They had a final boss and the individual plot threads but nothing to tie them together. It's a shame too, the game could have been legitimately great if they just gave it more time. One of many Switch exclusives that felt rushed.

I lost interest at Olberic chapter 2 arena boss fight. Bullshit mechanics stacked in the enemies favor.

>Switch exclusives
Uh

It was made as a Switch exclusive, it just got ported later.

>Bullshit mechanics stacked in the enemies favor
>game lets you infinitely stunlock any enemy as long as you're smart
jesus christ you suck

It's a completely generic jrpg.
It stole persona's mechanic where hitting an enemy's weakness will stun them, but in this game that just makes every battle really long since you have to stun do any real damage.

You have 8 heroes all with their chapters, adding to 32 chapters. There's no interaction between the characters in any meaningful way. There are 4 abilities you REALLY NEED in the field. This divides the people into 4 groups of 2. So party composition basically has to be picked one from each group. If you choose the heros you personally like and they dont match up perfectly? Well guess you didn't want to open the locked chests, which hold the best gear you can get. Dont wanna bring up one of the "social face" characters? well good luck running to the bar, changing to your "face", and running back to where you were to talk, and then running back again to get your wanted party member back in.

Some of the individual stories were good. The combat was nothing special, basically just bravely default. The complete lack of party cohesion and development was the final nail in the coffin. SNES and PS1 RPG's were about interacitons between people in your party. And due to this, i cant recommend it as its currently retarded 80 dollar asking price.

I don't understand how they fucked up that badly too how do you have two characters who's plot revolve around "high ranking nobility are assassinated by a shadowy cabal that runs through the deepest parts of every government" and have them NOT be related, how many goddamn unaffiliated illuminati groups are there on that continent

I don't think you've played the game retard. The boss is untargetable and gets extra turns while 2 of his mobs in front guard with retarded health.

I don't even remember it

>Bullshit mechanics stacked in the enemies favor
Octopath's bullshit is easy to contend with especially if you have Cyrus and Olivia speced to the other's job throw in a hunter Olberc and most of your bases are covered. There are far far worse shit oit there

Can't help but agree, since with all of the issues mentioned the individual stories should all be good at worst and since that isn't the case it makes everything even worse in hindsight.
Especially as some stories get outright real bad and don't recover hi primrose.

Just play better retard. Alchemist Olberic, Merchant Cyrus, Thief H'aanit, Dancer Ophilia, the boss literally couldn't kill my party and then I just turboed him down like any other boss once the mooks died.

>80 dollar asking price.
Fucking how, it's not a cult classic, it's not particularly rare, theres a PC version. Who fucking decides these prices

You're just making shit up and pretending you played it. Fuck off.

i didnt even bother finishing the last boss after completing the chapters. There was absolutely no buildup for whatever it was supposed to be, so i knew it was gonna suck and just stopped playing. How did it finish?

What even was the final boss, I quit after realizing there was no point in which the stories came together

I don't like it. It was boring. Boring combat, boring characters, boring story, boring maps, areas and dungeons.

This is literally one of the easiest RPGs I played, boring as fuck though so I stopped playing, kinda mad I wasted my money honestly.
