Now that the honeymoon phase is over and the shitposters have gone back to discord...what are your final thoughts on this game?
I enjoyed it overall. I thought the maps were well designed and interesting. I enjoyed the side quests which really gave Midgar a soul to it and made you understand better just what Avalanche is trying to protect. The characters were very fun too and I liked the designs. Despite the criticism it got, I actually liked the combat in the game. It was far less repetitive that FFXV and felt very fluid. My biggest gripe with the game was the unnecessary length and padding out of areas. The last couple chapters with the raid on Shinra HQ really frustrated me. It just felt like it would never end. Then when it did, you had to complete some nonsense motorbike mini game before being immediately thrown into a challenging final boss. There was also the whole tunnel dungeon to Wall Market.
It was a good game and I did enjoy it. But, I really hope that they don't try to turn this remake into 3 parts. I will be pissed if they drag out the sequel like they did the first game.
don't worry, The second part will be more exploring. I'd like to think that they're going to pull out XII's huge areas in the second game, and have the party travel a huge area after Kalm.

>just what Avalanche is trying to protect
Do you really?
Shinra is evil, I get it but especially towards the end, I felt bad for slaughtering security guards by the truckload.
The whole game they are pandering this "the slum's sacred, yo! THE PLANET!" attitude and not ONCE is anyone even CONSIDERING the good people "up top" and I think this is something they could have had explored, at least a bit, in this remake.
Oeverall, I enjoyed it quite thoroughly, though.
Josiah Lewis
I liked it a lot, gameplay was stellar though aerial combat needs some reworking and some systems should get tweaks for the next one (limits and summons). The game is packed with love for the original and the effort shows in the visuals, music, and characters. This is the main reason I'm confident for the whole remake series, they got Midgard so fucking right.
The major complaints that I have are the loading times disguised by walking and that the game kind of drags towards the end (sewers and the drum). Oh, and the side quests were pretty MMO bad.
I for one wasn't disgusted by the time jannies so while they were indeed annoying at times, I'm excited about what might happen next. I find the whole theory crafting entertaining regarding wtf happened. Although I completely understand if the Jannies could drag the game down for others, but then again I'm not a purist for FF7.

>Midgar during the day is wrong for so many reasons that it completely changed the flavour of the city and Avalanche themselves for the worse >The soundtrack is a massive disappointment >The story changes are arbitrary at best and completely awful at worst. >"The Disappearing Plate" >POTION BENCH >The sheer amount inherited from FF13
The combat is fine but the upgrade system is abysmal and never feels like it makes a real difference
4/10 - shocked that it's not better

"The good people up top" are acceptable casualties on both sides. They'll die if the planet dies, too.
Parker Evans
Can't the same thing be said about the entirety of the populace of the planet then? The game does a really bad job at painting the picture you just described, especially consindering everyone goes apeshit about some children missing because they are being stupid cunts.
Pretty big disappointment >the combat was mediocre and lacking the most basic things like a jump button, it felt really half assed but it had interesting ideas >the padding was out of this world, too many corridors and pointless filler. The game also had interesting content with no payoff like the jesse chapter >the presentation as well as the soundtrack were extremely unequal, from the gorgeous opening to the poorly textured slums and from the fantastic airbuster theme to some of the more FF13 soundig tracks like the handcrane section, it was really a mixed bag. >The story is a hot mess that feels more like some fanfiction than anything else, the whole destiny /time ghost thing feels too edgy and chuuni to be taken a bit seriously i think. >TOO MUCH FUCKING SEPHIROTH
However it did some good things >the characterization is probably the best aspect of the game, they managed to make Aerith extremely likable for example, much more than i could imagine.
Overall it was a really mediocre experience and honestky FF7 didn't deserve something like that.

>they got Midgard so fucking right Apart from the fact that it's meant to be so polluted that it's eternally stuck in night.
For every thing they got right about Midgar, they got two wrong

>shitposters have gone back to discord >"NOOO! YOU CAN'T JUST DISLIKE THE GAME!"
Fantastic game, full of soul but with a lot of room for improvement. I hope that next title comes exclusively on next gen/pc so I will get a bigger world plus no stupid hidden loading screens.
Jose Morales
What criticism did the combat get? I loved it, easily my favorite ARPG system with RPG emphasis. Agreed on the padding though. Chapter 4, 14 and 17 can suck a dick.
Charles Flores
Pacing and plot changes completely ruin the narrative. Level design is FFXII tier trash. Pointless side quests. Combat looks good but has no substance.
I'm amazed they managed to fuck it up this hard. Regardless, they still will make mountains of money with it and that's all that matters.

>>Midgar during the day is wrong for so many reasons that it completely changed the flavour of the city and Avalanche themselves for the worse i mean they showed the sunlamps, user
Ryder Gonzalez
>What criticism did the combat get? The aerial combat The party AI The crystarium upgrades Enemy move cancellations Hit-stun
Alexander Gray
>i mean they showed the sunlamps, user The ones that are turned off during the day? I'm astounded by the amount of people that don't get this: The lamps are for night.
Jace Richardson
>Enemy move cancellations These fucking garbage ass fights where you're about to smack the ennemy with your limit break but the game says "no fuck you, watch that super flashy anime cutscene instead and btw you lost your limit charge, fuck you" were the most infuriating things i've experienced in vidya recently
Blake Scott
I enjoyed the combat, possibly the only version of ATB combat that I've enjoyed, but it feels like all the work they put in to make Midgar more believable was wasted on new side characters that are incredibly forgettable. The early chapters are great, expanding on Jessie, Briggs and Wedge, giving a better sense of teamwork between them, Barett was fantastic, loved his entire performance, Cloud had his moments although it was a bit too anime with the constant awkward expressions and grunts, Tifa and Aerith were really well done although I think some of her facial expressions could've gotten some extra work. Sometimes she's a bit too deadpan. Way too much padding, still not sure if I like the story changes although I think they came because they realized they could only do Midgar and had to introduce a lot more stuff early on. No idea how they hell they think they can keep building on it. I'm guessing the next parts are still going to be rather linear, despite this being the point in the original where the world opens up. Would've much preferred to see more of the top side, like reckon missions, instead of so much time being spent in the slums with people who seem rather content with their situation. Makes Shrina look less evil than they used to.
Christian Thompson
>Fight a unheard of planetary weapon; fate itself. >Sephiroth here, Sephiroth there, Sephiroth everyfuckingwhere. >Aerith knows too much. And now has the parasitic ability to infect others with otherwise impossible information. >Decent soundtrack. >Great in-depth script. >Flawed story writing, with unnecessary additions.
If you take the elevator in the shinra tower they literally have a scene talking about this.
Landon Johnson
My only criticism for the combat, other than a simple jump button could've made fights more interesting, is that it seemed to rely too heavily on enemies being pressured, otherwise you're just doing low double digits. Makes the fights drag on for too long.
Brody Campbell
A jump button would have made enemy attacks to easy to dodge. That’s why they didn’t put any invincibility on the rolls either.
Jaxon Cook
In fairness, that would be an improvement. There were a lot of attacks that often seemed impossible to dodge.
Thomas Bennett
>Decent soundtrack. When it's good, it's alright - when it's bad it's full of tracks that sound like their straight from the FF13 cutting room floor.
Poor music direction, poor musical storytelling and a surprising amount of a soundtrack that's recorded badly with shocking instrumentation really let it down. There's probably 1 CD's worth of music worth listening to in the entire 7 CD soundtrack set
Ryder Morales
That scene makes my argument even stronger though. "People gotta redeem themselves" Good luck trying to argue your case with someone who whips out a 10 foot buster sword or an ARM CANNON, as soon as he sees you.
I mean, those are security guards we are talking about here, not soldiers (in the sense of the word, not the games lore). They are average Joes and the game even aknowledges this in a few parts. That's why it's so baffling to me that they didn't expand on this in the Shinra building, apart from that throwaway scene, when they expanded almost every other angle of the lore and story of Midgar.
Avalanche, as a whole, is not PAINTED to be terrorists, they ARE terrorists, by every definition of the word, even threatening normal people CONSTANTLY and being cool with it.
Luke Edwards
not at all the dodge is actually very finely tuned so that it boosts your a short distance quickly but with slow recovery at the end so it's better for escaping things that come in fast but it's not so quick that you would move faster by spamming roll than by just running, so there are attacks that you're supposed to dodge by running and some that you're supposed to dodge by rolling.
Gabriel Hall
It was pretty good overall, could've been far better though especially post game stuffs. I felt that once you finished the game there's really not much to do overall and the side quests overall aren't really that great, some are good however. I do hope that they can take any criticism from the this game to make the next parts far better, things like the gameplay, level design which is something i'm sure they they will far improve upon with next gen ssd and how they'll tie the story altogether. its an 8/10 for me.
Elijah Sanchez
>when they expanded almost every other angle of the lore and story of Midgar. The only time the game really comes close to doing this is in the Shinra museum. Otherwise, there's very little expansion added to the city, the lore and the characters. Sure - we learn that Biggs has anxiety, Wedge has cats and a bit more about Jessie's background but all of that is just surface level shit.
What is plate life like? What is life like in the other sectors? How old is Midgar and what was the original city like?
Ultimately, aside from the changes to the ending we leave Midgar knowing about as much as we ever did, it just took 8 times longer than usual to explain it.
Angel Hall
Still waiting for the part 3 bundle.
David Moore
>Aerial combat It's whatever, this is obviously more of an RPG than it is an action game and it doesn't need to play like Kingdom Hearts. >party AI you're supposed to be switching characters constantly. they build ATB slower when you're not controlling them for a reason. If this is a problem for you you're just bad at the game. >enemy move cancellations Yeah that was bullshit. Don't make a battle system that revolves around building a stagger gauge and then RESET THE GAUGE because you hit an arbitrary HP gate that triggers a cutscene.
