Finished the original trilogy, what do you guys think of 4?

The game is amazing, imo the best in teh series but a long shot and im a huge fan of the first 3 games, give Remake a go to if you enjoyed the old games its a fan game with a lot of love put into it.

How the fuck is that enough? With the way 4 is set up (too slow and tweaked too little) you'd still get hit either way.

I get that it’s better for characters from different franchises to stay in their franchises, but he wouldn’t feel out of place in Streets of Rage considering there were ninjas in 2 and 3 on top of a whole stage being an Japanese-styled castle in 3. Hopefully 4 gets dlc in the future.

Other than that 4 is absolutely amazing

Joe would fit better than any other SEGA character, even more than other beat-em-up characters since he'd fit in the setting more than anybody from Golden Axe. IIRC the article that mentioned Joe said that at SEGA different people have the say when it comes to different IPs. Probably a cultural thing. For example, Sumo Digital needed approval from the creator and/or lead dev of every SEGA IP they added into the game (and the story goes that the creator of Skies of Arcadia teared up when he saw how good they did Vyse and his stage).

Besides every Streets of Rage game after 1, play Battle Circuit. Easily my favorite beat em up besides SoR4.

My favorites outside of Streets of Rage series are The Ninja Warriors Once Again, Sengoku 3, and Ninja Baseball Bat Man. That last one isn't as polished in its gameplay but it's still quite good and it just oozes charm.

Play the Japanese version with a translation patch. You get more content on top of less bullshit.

Streets of Rage 3 (American version) is probably the hardest SoR game. If you want to play the same game but with a more fair difficulty I would recommend the Japanese version (Bare Knuckle 3).

Play Bare Knuckle 3. It has a fair challenge unlike the American version. It got that "fuck you kids, you don't get to beat this in one rental" bump in difficulty games sometimes got around that time, like Bayou Billy and Castlevania III.

I'd rather get a new Shinobi by Lizardcube.

I wonder how well SoR4 is doing. Hopefully enough for SEGA to let them do more of their franchises, a new Shinobi or Golden Axe game would be awesome.

SEGA seems fine with lending out IPs if they don't have to do shit except wait for the royalties. Lizardcube & Dotemu already did a Wonder Boy remake before SoR4, and they allowed games like Sonic Mania and Shenmue 3 and Bayonetta 2. Lizardcube & Guard Break Games have 3 unannounced projects as well, including at least one beat-em-up, and have said they have plans for DLC for 4 (likely a situation to see if it sold before greenlighting it).
