Is /mon/day over yet?

How do you make the “2 Versions” model exciting again? Should it just be axed?

This one’s for you, /mon/. These threads have motivated me enough to actually start studies on animal anatomy so that I’d be able to draw stuff for the hypothetical Pokémon killer. Pic related didn’t need much of that, thankfully.

>/mon/ thread dying
I'd help but all I have is SMT stuff

It was done to force people to trade. Nobody would trade pokemon if there was no incentive like the version-exclusives and trade evolutions.

>exciting again
What sort of low iq brainlet shit is this?
The versions scam was never exciting, even as a kid I knew it was just a move to suck more money out of people.

Make the 2 versions different to the point they're the same game only gameplay-wise. Also, the list you posted is missing a couple of games use this one instead next time.

So like pic related?

Pretty much

Reminds me of the first Rayman.

You’re talking about the scythe claws? It’s supposed to be a grim reaper type of thing.

No, the lack of arms, cloak, and the eyes being the only visible facial feature make him look like Mr. Dark sorta.

That’s interesting. Drawing it, I was reminded more of the Final Fantasy dark mage.

Doubling this.
These were good games, and did the two versions thing the best.
Unfortunately, I don't think most developers would want to take that kind of risk, or if they can, they probably don't have the resources to make two games.

>I don't think most developers would want to take that kind of risk
What risk would that even be? You’re basically making two games. If anything, the Pokémon model is much riskier because how scammy it’ll come off.

Is it me or do minmaxfags take all the fun out of the entire concept? I don't give a shit if my favourite digimon are objectively bad, I love them for what they did in the show

Is there a mon game where all the monsters are toys or at least have that aesthetic? I know moco-moco friends exists and all the monsters in that are stuffed animals, but I'm looking for something with more variety.

when they do try it end up being pretty atrocious, see how fe fates turned out.

Games aren't as easy to make for AAA developers as they were in the past. Making two unique games to make release at the same time is a big play, there's a reason very few games do this.

It is a scummy system, but it's also an old and venerable system that is expected by the populace. It's to the point that not only do people accept it, they will buy BOTH of the initial version and the eventual complete version later.

The Digimon in Super Xros Wars definitely started off as action figure designs. But it never got localized.

I don't mean monsters with designs that are toyetic I mean monsters with joints and screw holes as part of their designs. Also I hate Digimon story, worst subseries.

I feel like yo-kai watch would be a good series to play if you wanted to play a /mon/ game but you're also tired of the subgenre. It's so different from the rest of it, you can probably make an argument it's a parody.

Yo-kai watch mainly 2 and 3 are very dope, but they can get preety expensive especially the third one. From the way they handled the third version it kinda looks like L5 just want to be done with localizing the series here.

I'm still kind of blown away that a current and highly popular genre of games are just mon games with the monsters replaced with cute girls.

I think it's only physical American copies are $60 if you're pal region or go digital you can get it for $40 which is only ten dollars overpriced. Plus 3ds e-shop is going to die soon so you won't feel guilty pirating games for that console anymore.

What else is there besides Moemon and Puppet Nightmares?
