doors
The name is weird. It's structured like it's supposed to be some kind of wordplay, but it isn't.
play the pc version
It's literally only because they couldn't give it the miles better original name due to copyright reasons.
BSAA Jill wasn't the default when the game came out.
camera
>remastered version has no door skipping
>gamecube version has weird stutters in cutscenes
>scenarios don't really match up and leave a continuity error
>it doesn't have the appeal these days to people who aren't willing to bear the controls and perspective, already failed to get friends into it
>the stone and metal objects are really confusing to deal with at the gate and the door to courtyard, I often mix them up
Otherwise, really good game and definite resident evil
No arranged mansion
the game really DIDN'T need the crimson heads, the game didn't need those defensive knives and flashes
how is biohazard better?
but then you can just shoot your entire way through the game, making it too easy.
they added difficulty with crimson heads and removed difficulty with the self defense devices.
I don't know about that, as much nostalgia I have for this it's pretty overrated actually. I think you mean to say no one can talk shit about its graphics or music, which would be true.
>Puzzles
Typical to japanese games, REmake has elementary-tier puzzles that barely require any actual thinking. Most of it is just bring this thing to this area, which don't really take any skill. On top of that, REmake isn't huge, so there's only about 2 or 3 routes per puzzle as your multiple choice answers. They're not interesting, fun or though provoking, at most tedious. Even then, not so much, since the map isn't huge.
>Combat
It's just clunky and braindead. Just shoot, position yourself far away and attack. There are literal 99 cent mobilegames with better combat than this.
>Controls and """"Atmosphere""""
I've heard people justify the sluggish and awkward movement by saying it adds to the horror. By purposefully handicapping the player and making them fight the camera and controls, rather than enemies, it makes the game more tense. Maybe, but Silent Hill has infinitely superior control while correctly "handicapping" the player character. The framedata of the Silent Hill character's swings is terrible and their clumsy animation supports this, really making you feel like you're not a combat expert, just a guy desperately fighting for his life. That's proof enough you can be horror without """purposefully"" making the controls shit.
The enemies are laughable hollywood creatures like zombies and giant animals. These are not eerie, they completely clash with the spooky music and the creepy hallways. Every enemy encounter ruins the atmosphere they're going for because no one with a functioning brain can take these enemies seriously. RE's narrative and gameplay don't mesh well either, the characters are part of a combat unit yet (gameplay-wise) they have the agility of a tortoise and durability of styrofoam. Silent Hill just does everything RE tries correctly.
true but comparing other horror games to silent hill is always unfair
sounds like perfect balance with interesting new mechanics
This
you could say that but it didn't need it tho
Crimson Heads are what make the game. There's no tension around conserving ammo and avoiding conflict without them.
fair I guess, I just think crimson heads are fucking cool
I don't like survival horror gameplay
This. Everyone sucks off its puzzles and atmosphere but they're garbage. Only objectively good thing about the game is its soundtrack and presentation.
>>the stone and metal objects are really confusing to deal with at the gate and the door to courtyard, I often mix them up
How do you mean?
>The framedata of the Silent Hill character's swings is terrible
Literally everything you posted is wrong. Awful post.
Good puzzles:
Room with moving eagle
Lisa in the caves
X-rays
Getting the armor key
Bad puzzles:
Suits of armor
Block pushing
Timed statue pushing
It controls great. You just can't wrap your head around a different perspective.
It's the epitome of style over substance. The mechanics of the game aren't satisfying at all but it just looks so fucking good especially for an old gamecube game. The Crimson heads were cool but there were too few of them anyway and they don't impact the game that much, not to mention fighting is just so boring in this game.
I agree entirely with the puzzles, they're almost always glorified keys that have no logical thought beyond putting the square in the square shaped hole. The ones that are actual puzzles are stupidly straightforward. The one with the paintings is so braindead that you're most likely going to work it out immediately, but think that it must be wrong because it's just so dumb.
I think the only puzzles likely to stump anyone are the ones where you need to examine objects in the menu to get other ones, and that's purely because you probably don't realise you can do that.
Wholeheartedly disagree with the rest of your post though.
Muh haunted house instead of convincing residential front to conceal the lab.
I've had times where I didn't take take the object from the courtyard for the door. There were times when I tried to use metal object without combining it with stone object (on my first playthrough). There was also a time when I put the object in a door but when returning to courtyard I didn't have it. It seems small, but it is the only item that has given me trouble
