See Paleologus or whatever it was called operation by Warsaw pact countries. TSFs sure are better at hive maneuvers, but before Susanoo was deployed there was 0 successful hive infiltrations Yokohama was a result of G-bombing and superordinate surrendering it on purpose
What makes TSFs good is their high maneuverability and good firepower during aboveground combat.

Robots carry fantastic amount of ammo on them, like can you imagine reasonably-sized helicopter carrying 10k 36mm uranium bullets? And they can rearm and resupply themselves on battleground without support crew.
Tanks can't outrun BETA as big rhino-like ones can run at something ridiculous like 180 km/h, but at the same time tank cannons are better than TSF weapons at penetrating their hide.

Neither did real world armies in 2001. Because it's alternative reality, giant robots are an evolution of combat equipment that was used during lunar war.
