you've got some seriously shit taste

There have been so many great indie platformers and Metroidvainias in the past decade.
> Salt and Sanctuary
> Ori 1 and 2
> Iconoclasts
> Super Meat Boy
> Cuphead
> Shovel Knight
And yet OP still makes a thread about the overrated pile of excrement that is Hollow Knight.

They're all great you obsessive nigger.
Also Shovel Knight isn't a Metroidvania, its a Megaman-esque platformer

I have a pretty good feeling that The Knight will end up getting a Mii Costume in Smash so you might get your wish

Don't forget the best one.

Is it actually worth playing? I've heard very mixed things about it.

>He doesn't even include Rainworld next to the top tiers

If you have the patience for some RNG bullshit deaths, the game is rewarding as all fuck.
You do have to learn everything on your own though, the game doesn't teach you about the more advanced movement mechanics but once you get them down they make the game feel fucking great.
Also the modding scene is pretty good too, Just don't expect anything to come out any time soon

recommend me a game like Metroid Prime 1&2 Zig Forums

It's less a metroidvania and more a survival platformer, you're dumped into a virtual ecosystem and have to survive and find your own goal. It's best to play completely blind and figure shit out on your own. Just prepare to die a lot and get extremely frustrated, it's probably one of the hardest 2D platforming games ever made.

I found hollow knight to be good but nowhere near as enjoyable as rainworld, and I haven't played Ori yet. Not a big fan of metroidvanias in general, but for some reason I absolutely adore rain world.

Fair, everyone's got their tastes. Hell I can not get into Ori 1 and 2 but I can still like 'em for what they are, I just enjoy Hollow Knight and Rain World more.

prime 3 had Elysia and the Pirate Homeworld so it wins over 2's areas for me

True, I'm just more of a fan of the Dark Aether areas and especially Sanctuary Fortress

>Dark beam + missile = dead

I've played through Hollow Knight

I played Ori & The Blind Forest and its sequel

While the Ori-games were super cool... i mean... Hollow Knight is the better game. It has more depth on all fronts

Is Hollow Knight the best metroidvania game of all time, or is there some other game I don't know about that will live up to it?

Man the beams in 2 were fucking rad. I get why people hated the shit out of the ammo system but the Annihilator Beam was fucking badass, especially when you get the super missile varient of it.
>The way the air just looks like shattered glass after firing it
god it makes my dick hard
Hollow Knight has its flaws, lets not kid ourselves. It takes a while for it to pick up speed, the combat is rather simple, but what it does good it really does do good.

Well the sonic boom is LITERALLY breaking reality

I played it for the first time a few months ago. Dunno why people complain about beam ammo. Its not hard to get more.
I didnt even 100% it. People also complain about the key search a lot but I found it much easier than 1's, even if constantly loading between worlds was kind of a pain.

People that complain about backtracking and resource management in fucking METROID of all games are little bitches and shouldn't be heard. The less they're catered to the better the games become.

Ammo was the perfect way to balance the beams and avoid abuse. In Prime 1 beams were barely different from the usual linear upgrades, the wasn't much reason for them to be different besides novelty. The only way in which they were inferior in Prime 2 was that all beam combos were just shot instead of some being beams like in Prime 1, they just weren't as useful.

It's basically what says, Resource Management just fucks with them. Which I don't fucking get, but I've played shit like Republic Commando, Halo, Half Life, shit like that.
Retards will be Retards, but Prime 2 was the peak
True, but I feel like Prime 3 suffers a bit with its beams. 1 was kinda like a beta phase where they were just figuring out how to make them good, 2 did it just right, but then 3 pulls a Metroid Fusion and makes it all just one superpowered beam, it just felt like shit compared to the last two games

I do like 3 a lot, but most of what I like is the world and atmosphere, and story.
I also like the aiming, but if you play the collection that isn't exclusive to 3, in fact the collection just makes 3 seem more annoying because of all the waggle gimmick parts.
I think some of the stuff in 3 was cool. Hyper mode as a concept is good but its way to lenient on punishing the player for using it, and having the last zone basically make you invincible because of it sucks. I think the x-ray visor giving the nova beam weak points was great though.

3 had some strong points, Dark Samus was good, the x-ray weakpoints were also good, but man I just can't get passed how linear it felt compared to the last two. It felt a lot like Fusion in that it had a good story, but the gameplay just felt meh.
I just hope Prime 4 keeps the beam management of 1 and 2, but also incorporates some stuff from Super or maybe even a few things from 3

I loved Samus Returns, this is one of the few video game revivals I really, really enjoyed. I wish it was longer.

What makes Metroid level design so kino? No matter how many times I replay any game it still feels so intuitive and fresh.
