I hate feeling directionless. What do you hate about games (nowadays)?

>Says this when every modern game has waypoints out the ass.

thanks doc

unskippable cutscenes in the modern era are unforgivable, luckily they're usually reserved for shit games that I wouldn't touch in the first place (mostly western stuff like naughty dog games)
also thanks doc

A focus on realism over style.
You have the ability to make fantastic worlds that aren't bound by the rules ours have and you only want to make generic cities and trash like that? Fuck that shit.

Unskippable cutscenes, games that start before you can configure graphics settings, shitty controls taken from consoles. Also games trying to hard to be Hollywood-blockbusters instead of being fun to play.

My personal hatred is for the degradation of ingame physics through the years. Stuff has gotten much prettier but much less interactive.

Too many games put a lot of attention on superfluous things and then ship with mediocre gameplay.

How do you make a game like skyrim/tw3/ac oddyssey/etc.. that people are meant to spend 50+ hours with, and the core gameplay/combat is trash.

I'd gladly give up grafix advancements for a generation so devs can focus on gameplay refinements.

poor and predictable AI

>Ubishit map
>literally 1000 icons
>waypoints for every one if you want
>overwhelmed with buusywork so still no sense of direction

bad camera. quit forcing me to control my own camera, games.

too many niggers

You might have autism.

Forced walk-and-talk sections. Just make them fucking cutscenes, at least then I can put the controller down and decide if I give a fuck about whatever is happening or not.

>enemy does a big telegraph
>dodge away
>Actually, the enemy continues to delay his attack for another few seconds, then closes the gap immediately and hits you

>Trailing missions

That's on you for mis-timing a dodge.

Danke, herr Doctor

These.
Also hate games where your stuck on a rail. Can't even deviate a little.

>XC2
>waypoints out the ass
>still hard as fuck to reach destination because you're going from the head to the asshole of a titan and the directions make no sense

>first time you see a dude
>assume, like old-school games, that a telegraph is designed to test reaction time and react
>oh, no sweetie, this was actually testing whether you were playing this blind or not, take half your health, bless your soul
ok
>proceed to never get hit again because you're "Gud" aka memorized

>don't mind me, you just better read these credits!
Sad that even Pokémon knew better than to ever lock you into reading the credits before Gen 7 at least.

>assume, like old-school games
Don't pretend like you've played any user.

>that a telegraph is designed to test reaction time and react
It is, you just fucked up.

On one hand, I like the freedom to do as I like like in BotW that you can basically play the game however you want.
However it can be pretty directionless. You have too much freedom that you don't know when you should do something or when to get certain stuff.

Not that they intended it. They just had you save before the unskippable credits so you could soft reset.

>You have too much freedom that you don't know when you should do something or when to get certain stuff
What.
Just get it when you want.

Damn I thought my thread would die because the image got aliased into making the text illegible.

Here's a lewd image to compensate but I am legitimately curious what the ten biggest common flaws are in games.

I hate grindy repetition, overt loading times, overt "hidden" loading times in elevators or shimmying into narrow hallways crawling slowly. I hate overly big pointless sandboxes with nothing in them and nothing to do.

I FUCKING ABHOR IF YOU HAVE RETARDED DIFFERENT BUTTONS AND I CAN'T REMAP THEM. FUCK THAT.

I don't like when developers (especially common in the west) go out of their way to unsexify a character.

Nobody gives a fuck about performance and input latency and it kills me inside

Motion blur

No way to turn off motion blur

>melee enemy can never hit you if you strafe them in a circle

Because games arent games any more a lot of times. They're busywork based around simple, basic gameplay set on repeat ad nauseam.

Why play a 50 hour long RPG, when 35 of those hours are repetitive monster hunts?
Why play an "open world" game where your options are
>do the same 3 missions over and over again
Or
>wander around off the rails and do nothing of import
Why play a game who's length comes mostly from running towards a dot on the horizon for hours?

It's annoying. Most games shouldn't be more than 10 hours long, but so many try to be 50 hour epics, resulting in games made of nothing.

On the other hand, there's the ultra short fare where you run down corridors and shoot the same 2 reskinned enemies for 5 hours, featuring a canned plot that thinks its deeper than it is.

Or the third person view version of that same exact idea, but with superficial climbing and cover based shooting segments.

Everything is shit. Even indie games are shit, because they're not actually good games. They're gay ass little wastes of time that would never have been financed in the old days either

literally too big

>telegraph begins
>0.5 seconds pass
>hurtbox extends out
>and then the weapon swings towards you
Guess the games

One that you suck at obviously.

motion blur, bad netcode/online functionality, singleplayer games with online rewards that are forever gone since they decided to kill the servers.

It's literally impossible to be bad at Skyrim

And yet here you are.

>singleplayer games with online rewards that are forever gone since they decided to kill the servers.
Reminded me of that one Demon's Souls achievement.

I'm trying to compile a list of 10 mistakes that a game should not include.

Directionlessness (being lost)

Unskippable cutscenes

Realism over artstyle

Static non-interactive worlds

Base gameplay lacks variety

Shit ai

Directionless sandboxes

Shit camera

"diversity"

Interrupting cutscenes to make me walk 5 seconds before continuing the cutscene

Trailing (but that's way on the way out I don't see that shit nowadays)

Performance

Remove motion blur

Lack of variety/filler bullshit

online components to dead online games

Yea it’s bad design

Imagine being so dumb you need even more hand holding.

You're tasked with finding an NPC in a town and talking to them. The game either gives you a node and directs you to the person so you can immediately progress, or you're not told who it is and talk to everyone until you get it right.

The latter fucking sucks my ass.

Those sections are most likely masking loading times.

Fake set pieces. I vividly remember borrowing Tomb Raider from gamestop when I worked there years ago. There was a segment where a bunch of shit is collapsing and you have to run away before it collapses out from under you but I just stopped running at some point and everything just stop collapsing until I started moving again. Just make it a cutscene why bother if its that easy to ruin the illusion

>input latency
rdr2
I actually like the game but I can't defend shit like that

Literally too gay

slow motion. It was only ever done right in the max payne series.

TURN BASED COMBAT

RANDOM BATTLES

fucking hell no one said it yet?
