Overrated. 7/10

Why are there so many claims that this game is a masterpiece?
The game play is boring and simple, quests are MMO-tier fetch trash, and in earnest it has TOO much coomer bait. There litterally are emotional scenes where a character is dying but then you also have 2bs vagina in your face.
Now the story isn't bad but did people really cry over this shit? "da machine can really think and he just like u" and "dis person died, i have no meaning in life now, there is no meaning in life huh?" is the whole fucking story. Just filled with typical nonsensical anime shit like ripped beach boys villains and coomer bait.

I mean the game is not bad by no means, but it really just sits in that 7/10 "can be enjoyable" category, only pushed above mediocre by cute girls (especially the red head twins)

i only played the first playthrough.. i couldn't be bothered with doing it again let alone 5 or 6 times (however many playthroughs there are)
i felt like i was playing a PS vita game. It is massively overrated, i agree
Having said that, i had fun playing the first playthrough for at least 75% the way through then I was just eager to finish it

It's a story about human nature, and how the fact that we're able to feel and experience emotion is both a curse and a blessing. One of the primary underlying themes is the trade-off of love and war.

It's a combination of the robot's ass and it being babby's first exposure to simplistic philosophical concepts. OK, but it isn't just spoken about, it's directly expressed in the actions of the characters and the progression of the plot. As the story comes to an end, the androids realize they've been tricked into fighting a meaningless war for several thousand years--wonderful dramatic irony, considering the machines and androids can't feel "real" emotions. They're just imitating what humans did.

This is all pretty saturated in the side quests too, you get a great feel for what the game is trying to say. Unforgettable experience.

I think it's a little bit better than "can be enjoyable" but it's not a masterpiece by any means. It's just that most games suck ass these days so even something like Nier seems larger than life.

Don't bother, people who post on Zig Forums in this style and formate are physically incapable of changing their opinions. To them, all these thematic connections are non existant or not even that interesting to them.

One of the other interesting things is the Simone boss fight. She is named after Simone Beaudivoir, a modern phisospher who primarily focused on feminism. She coined the term "male gaze." And wouldn't you know it--YOU CAN'T LOOK AT HER for part of the boss fight!

And if you follow her questline, you learn she was obsessed with the cult leader machine, Jean-Paul. This parallels real life, because Simone Beaudvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre were fucking each other in real life! So fuckin awesome.

If you're reading this thread because you're thinking of purchasing this game, I'd say if you like what I've described you should probably get it. Great combat too at high levels (play on hard). If you think this is pretentious, I would skip it.

i think they made a huge mistake making the second playthrough so damn similar to the first. new character with a hacking mechanic.. big whoop.

The climax in what your saying is that the androids just break down crying saying "i have no meaning in life". How is that nearly as profound as you claim? Whole game is just different threads of people losing their meaning in life and crying, and they lose it over typical shit like a lover, not unique at all. For example, There's like 5 side quests were someone dies and they just cry saying wahh that's all I had.
