This. The old build was probably some anime bullshit centered heavily around Sylux and that gave NCL huge PTSD from the Other M fiasco and wasn't going to let it slide this time around. Plus Bamco has never treated Nintendo IPs with respect, they always juryrig it into some other garbage (Mario Kart Arcade GP, Star Fox: Assault, etc.). Smash is the exception since Sakurai is still the top enforcer.
