not a surprise. just a reminder that gta5 is the most profitable entertainment product of ALL TIME (that's across games, movies, music, etc) and they still were saying that wasn't good enough.
>Make one really good game
>Get stuck making trash for all eternity
Shame.
that avengers game nobody seems to care about is also a game as a service. so basically lego star wars with ugly, realistic designs and lootboxes
Games as a service almost always turn out to be massive flops. Why are games companies still trying to make this meme real? Anthem should have been the last warning they need but it just keeps happening.
>DC
It was shit from the start lel
It feels like both studios realized their mistake halfway into development and are trying to keep this shit away from releasing as long as possible to prolong their employment.
they want even be allowed to still make hot female characters and fun escapism storylines thanks to liberals now so I doubt I would have enjoyed it either way
Most of them are in dev for nearly half a fucking decade. They saw the red light but can't stop for another two years.
Also the few success stories make more money than anything else, so everyone's gonna keep making them. If anything it's good: less games to actually bother playing per year, more time to examine your backlog.
because publishers only see money. greedy jews.
>NOOOOOOOOO CONTINUED SUPPORT AND MONTHLY UPDATES BAD!!! I WANT ONE AND DONE GAMES!!
Rocksteady, not Rockstar dipshit
'games as a service' is just a corporate meme word anyway. it's a meme word that means making a game that you can inject with low effort microtransactions and not the 'support a game long after launch' they keep spouting. if the latter were the case, then expansion packs literally count as being part of the 'games as a service' model - the same game that keeps getting content.
Remember that time WB released that TF2 clone but with batmen vs jokers and the batmen used guns?
i feel like one of the few people that likes the idea of live service games. i like ingame events, i like new stuff being added regularly.
that said i can't think of a single live service game i actually like and the microtransaction shit is always horrible. but the idea of it is fun.
Silly user that'snot the issue and you know it. Here maybe this (you) will make you feel better
Even if I hadn`t known about the games as a service part I would have expected something was rotten when I saw the first gameplay.
The gameplay was just so bland and generic, that is what I meant with the lego star wars part. Just your character going down a linear level with a bigger combat arena like room every few steps. Combat also seemed incredible easy and shallow with you just pushing one or two buttons in total.
I expect they have made it that way so that an algorithm can easily make new missions for the game as a service aspect.
>Silly user that'snot the issue and you know it. Here maybe this (you) will make you feel better
is this just a DC version of the marvel game disney had outsourced to square enix? is it just marvel's avengers but ftp overwatch type game with DC heroes
I was honestly expecting a new IP, after fucking 10+ years of making batman games, the guys at Rocksteady deserved to do something new, it's fucking WB so who cares, it's gonna be DLC, season passes galore, just like with every singe game they make, from Shadow of Moredollars, to Mortal Kombat 11 season passes
maybe the barebones version will be FTP while the upper tear can be fee to play, but I'm guessing it's gonna all be paid
arkham impostors? something like that, back in the ps3/360 days, but it flopped hard, they even tried to push multiplayer in arkham origins ffs, fuck WB one of the worst fucking publishers
The whole thing was clearly designed with a focus on being able to play as many different characters as possible. Their problem is they didn't go down the Ultimate Alliance path with that because AAA BIG DICK GAME.
similar to episodic games, the concept sounds good, but is inevitably terrible.
It should not even be tried. Both this and the Avengers game will flop.
That's correct. Only faggots would want a goddamn Superhero game with shitloads of microtransactions and a "long tail." You play as Batman, he punches bad guys. That's it.
What you're actually thinking of is old school MMOs. Big ass games that people can't just meta their way through and need to cooperate to figure out shit in, where the devs made a bunch of content in advance and cool limited time events that cycle in and out to shake things up.
yeah but then the game sells like shit, and the devs and the publisher abandon the game and you get jack shit for new content and the game died in 4 months and it had no content to begin with
fucking Battlefield 5 was a 'live-service' game, how well did that turn out?
>Also the few success stories make more money than anything else, so everyone's gonna keep making them.
Yeah but most of those success stories are successes because they actually offer something substantial.
Look at GTAV. Yeah the online is a games as a service model, but it also comes bundled with a single player mode that you can play for dozens if not hundreds of hours and not pay an additional dime.
It's just another thing like procedural generation. It theoretically could work but most of the time it just encourages bad habits and leads to ruined products.
>That's correct. Only faggots would want a goddamn Superhero game with shitloads of microtransactions and a "long tail." You play as Batman, he punches bad guys. That's it.
Yeah, that worked so well for Anthem
What could go wrong?
battlefront 2, battlefield 5, anthem, must be tons more superb live service games lmao
major dc fag here
i'l be picking it up and playing it for 500 hours no matter what haha
>Micro transactions
>Literally the game being built aroud micro transactions
>Micro transactions
>No good story or characters since they only need to come up with baseline scenario that justifies a battle royal
>Microtransactions
>Once the developer stops supporting the game you can't play it all because servers are dead
>Micro transactions
>Can't play without internet
>Microtransactions
>You have to fucking download the game instead of just having everything in a single disk
>Microtransactions
Fuck for supporting them
Glad you agree with me!
Wait, are we not getting a new batman game?
t. It's my favorite game series
I don't mind the live service thing so much as the implication that it's possibly a fucking Suicide Squad game. What would possess them to make a game about that dumpster fire?
Post the best superhero games ITT.
>Games as a Service type game
>will have some kind of online component
Can a "game as a service" even be (mainly) single-player?
It's probably going to be another hero shooter.
The animated movies and comic suicide squad are actually badass though. Would play.
Most of those cases are also only big specifically because they were already given such massive brands and marketing budgets or were straight up given out for free to lure kids in (GTA, Fortnite, etc).
>He thinks microtransactions are a live service feature and cannot be present otherwise
Oh sweet summer child
>Glad you agree with me!
Mystery Dungeon is still one of the only genres where random gen levels works.
Post a single superhero focused game that would benefit from GAAS.
