5 was the first DMC I played but I enjoyed 4 more once I finished it.

Honestly while he is a good boss, I think Credo is a bit overrated. The shield is anti-fun and the whole gimmick is clearly designed with Nero in mind, you can't even fight him as Dante unless you go through most of Bloody Palace or just hack the game.

4 does have some features that 5 doesn't have, like a turbo mode (officially) and LDK difficulty, and I really like 4's angelo enemies, but otherwise 5 is an improvement in every regard. 5 actually feels like a full and polished game, Dante got all the love and attention he deserved instead of being an afterthought like 4. I say that as someone who spent hundreds of hours in 4's Bloody Palace in the years before 5 came out.

4 is absolutely full of "that part"s

At most you can say V is a bit annoying on DMD because of his mediocre damage output, otherwise he's much more enjoyable than 4's bad sections.

Memes aside, e-celeb hyperautists are becoming more and more annoying. Usually it's speedrunners but sometimes you get people who spend literally 10000 hours in a game and then get upset when the sequel isn't identical (even if previous entries were also significantly different). Appreciating a game is not a bad thing but some people are just mentally ill and somehow gain followers who proceed to mindlessly parrot them ad nauseam.

Yes, with all those things going against it it's still better than dmc4.

You need more than 1 good boss for it to be a better game.
DMC3 is still the best because the boss line up is much better overall than the rest of the series, even if individually none of them are as good as Credo mechanically, thematically they shit all over Credo though, obviously.

I genuinely believe the only people who like V are zoomers and people who were so scarred by dmc that they will praise V endlessly just so it DMC doesn’t die again. Granted in terms of gameplay V is arguably better but there are still things 4 did better. But the biggest thing I was disappointed in was the story, both Dante and Vergil’s characters are butchered and almost parodies of what they were. There was no point in bringing Vergil back other then “remember him!!!”. I can’t comprehend how people can say V is better than 3 when V has no other point to it’s story other than riding 3’s coattails.

I did too until you just mentioned them.

1's a good game to git gud at and clear in one go.
3's a good adventure focused on character progression into execution mastery.
5's a good boss fight game with tutorials/warmups. Its only flaw is no pure boss rush mode.

I think Credo could have held up a candle to Vergil himself as bosses go, if only he was emotionally as established as Vergil was. As in at least we could have given a rat's ass about him and Nero fighting. And he wouldn't have been just the angry guy with the spiky beard.

The root is okay, but fuck Nidhogg. He's one of the least offensive bad bosses but he's still bad.

If I had the ability to stance swap on dante that perfectly I'd be playing some gookclick game like Starcraft, not DMC.

V was an interesting idea, but yes this game already has one too many protagonists, and no real antagonist whatsoever.

Honestly I would have been fine if the whole story was about just Nero or just Dante, and just let us play the levels with the other character without forcing a narrative reason for backtracking.
