It's a good leveling out point as hardware catches up. At that resolution there are certain graphic tradeoffs taking place while achieving decent framerates. Hardware needs to be a little more affordable for ultra@60fps.

4k alone doesn't increase fidelity if the artificial image (i.e. game) isn't detailed enough. This will also take lot of power.
Reality is easier as we have unlimited detail and frequency of tiny details is huge but in a videogame someone needs to model and texture all that shit in.
Answer: Yes and No. OP image is an example of not having enough of visual frequency for 4k image.

High dpi monitors look really nice. You get diminishing returns at distance, but for reading/menus/prerendered graphics it reduces eyestrain and looks crisp.

Yes 4k is a meme. The difference on any standard sized TV/monitors are so minor you can barely even tell, it's only notable if you have a large screen. It also tanks performance for a minor to no difference.
