>downloaded the custom n64 emulator that lets you play goldeneye and perfect dark with mouse and keyboard and at 60fps
>excited to finally play them after hearing for years how they're some of the greatest fps ever made
>boot up goldeneye first
>choose the highest difficulty
>immediately notice how slow, awkward and unresponsive the movement is
>there doesn't seem to be any way to jump, swim or do any of the things you can do in a normal fps
>the guns don't even have alternate firing modes, a basic feature of most 90's fps
>walk up to an enemy
>rather than shoot at me, he starts doing dodge rolls for no reason even though I wasn't even shooting at him
>he finally decides to shoot at me
>I take 1 step to the right and effortlessly avoid the barrage of gun fire he unloads on me
>he pauses and then starts shooting at me again
>I take 1 step to the left and again avoid all his gun fire
>I finally decide to take a shot at the enemy
>he staggers around for what feels like a full minute, only to finally recover and slowly start aiming at me again
>I shoot at him again and kill him
And the thing is, I'm playing this on a custom emulator that makes the game look, run and play far more smoothly than it ever did on the original hardware. I can't even begin to imagine how awful of an experience it is playing it without the benefit of emulation.
This has got to be a joke, right? How does this game have such a huge following when its gameplay is so broken? Even shovelware FPS from the 90's offered better gameplay. I don't understand how anyone can genuinely believe this holds up, much less consider it one of the greatest FPS ever made.
What's the deal with GoldenEye?

Good bait. Made me read the first line and reply.
you are playing it inauthentically, it was like a fully 3D movement enhanced on rails shooter back when it first came out
accept you are zooming and move on
It's a console FPS from 1997 made for a controller with only one analog stick. Cut the game some slack, OP.
>the guns don't even have alternate firing modes, a basic feature of most 90's fps
You gotta do better than this, this gave the game away almost immediately.
>I don't understand how anyone can genuinely believe this holds up, much less consider it one of the greatest FPS ever made
Listening to retards is your own fault, user. A lot of people just had fun LANing this thing is all, Perfect Dark improved on everything that GD did.
>what is Dark Forces 1 and 2, Blood 1 and 2, Shadow Warrior, Unreal
Spotted the zoomer. Alternate firing modes were MORE common in older FPS than they are now. I blame console FPS replacing alternate firing mode with shitty iron sights.
Drop that shit like hot garbage and play Timesplitters 2 or TS:FP instead

Thread theme: youtube.com
You hold R in Goldeneye to access the alternative firing mode. The K7 Soviet is full auto normally, but when you hold R you can single shot with it. Fucking quarterwit.
It's a good game, though nostalgia plays heavily in to how people feel about it. If you never sat in a group of four around an N64 in the late 90s as a kid then you seriously missed out.
That's not an alternate firing mode, retard/ That's just holding a shoot button down. Any fps lets you do that.
I'm talking about alternate firing modes that are genuinely different like:
blood-wiki.org
>REGULAR FIRE: Fires a stream of damaging magic energy
>ALTERNATE FIRE: Sets the Life Leech upright, letting it act as a sentry gun, but leaving the weapon at place. It can be picked again up by pressing Use key when close to it or moved by shooting with Sawed-off or Tommy Gun. Secondary fire requires at least some ammo to be loaded in life leech.
>I'm talking about alternate firing modes that are genuinely different like:
Uh huh, so tell me about Dark Force 1's genuinely different alternate firing mode.
I.M. Mine
>A weapon that functions like a mine. Primary fire deploys which explodes within a three-second delay.
>The secondary fire makes the mine explode upon proximity.
Imperial Repeater Gun
>A weapon that uses Power Cells, its primary fire has a very rapid rate of fire. >The secondary fire shoots a cluster of three, but is slower.
That's actual meaningful use of secondary fire, changing shots into AoE blasts, or turning a mine from instant into proximity.
That's some straw grasping.
By the way, the K7 Soviet's single shot mode has a different property to full auto. Single shot is counted by the game as a silenced weapon.
Its undoubted aged like shit.
it gets younger with time
Why do you keep harping on about the K7 anyway? Oh yeah, because it's the only weapon in GoldenEye that you could even remotely try to argue has a secondary firing mode (except it doesn't, really).
>That's some straw grasping.
How is that straw grasping? Those secondary fires are meaningfully different from their primary fires. If anyone is grasping at straws, it's you, pathetically trying to argue GoldenEye has secondary firing modes.
Don''t forget that it was originally conceived as a rail shooter. Several levels retain elements of this in their design.
That explains a lot about why the game feels so awful to play.
And the multiplayer was added without management knowing about it after the game was already late
>(except it doesn't, really).
K7 single shot is vital to completing the game on 00 Agent because it's the only readily weapon basically available in every mission capable of silently killing somebody.
Goldeneye doesn't need many secondary firing modes because it literally has over 30 weapons.
>How is that straw grasping?
Because they are worthlessly different.
>vital to completing the game
>one of the easiest fps ever made
So this is the target audience of goldeneye
I don't even understand how you could die in goldeney even at the highest difficulty setting. Enemies can barely even react with how ridiculously exaggerated all their animations are.
overrated and outdated
Holy wall of text batman
How’s it feel ‘awful’ to play, especially if you’re using mouse and keyboard? You have the aim staying center, correct?
My apologies sir, I momentarily forgot I was dealing with somebody who was playing Goldeneye on the save state platform.
One day when you're ready for big boy school you can play Goldeneye without the training wheels.
>A lot of people just had fun LANing this thing
Damn dude, how did you network your Nintendo 64?
This whole thread is bait, but Rare fixed that in PD.
Why the fuck would type this instead of making a video you fartknocker because you lie on the internet
this bait again, OP?
