It's the greatest third person shooter of all time but it is not a standard or typical third person shooter at all, it has one of the most unique aiming mechanics out there.

Play it with no expectations. Just do it.

I can't get into this game, and I've tried 3 times.

Legitimate masterpiece as an action game and a horror game. Everything about it rules. Story and characters are pitch perfect, the game is self-aware but maintains a menacing and dangerous atmosphere.
Visually the game looks fine as long as you install the Ultimate HD mod. On its Gamecube release though this was hands down the best looking console game out there, or at least competing with some of the more high end stuff on Xbox.
Sound design is 11/10, almost every single sound effect or byte in this game is iconic. The guns sound amazing. The sound of things breaking and the menu sounds and pickup sounds are all so satisfying. The villagers screaming and cultists chanting will permanently stick with you. The soundtrack is legitimately the best in the series and really underrated.
Gameplay is also 10/10. Play with a controller as intended, mouse or motion controls break the game and make it way too easy, the game was designed around aiming with a controller and that's where the challenge comes from. The game has an absolute fuckton of replay value because it has NG+ and there's tons of different weapons. Having different weapon loadouts changes the playthrough experience a ton, for a fun example try using the TMP in place of a pistol.

It’s really, really good. It gets shat on for being overly action focused, but in my opinion the reason it’s so good is because it toes a great line between action and horror. It’s really fun, but also really tense and stressful (at least for your first play through.)

This is really good advice. I went into the game like that and genuinely had fun.

Play it on Gamecube or don’t bother.

Definitely. RE4 might as well have the best controller aim in the history of videogames.
it's really a shame no other game uses that same laser aiming system instead of just straight up controlling the camera with the sticks.

After playing 0, REmake, REmake2, 4 and 5 one after another i can honestly say that 4 is the worst of them. I loved it when it came out but the fact that it's like a separate story to the rest of the series really drags it down. If may as well just be a different series altogether

$5 is a steal for it. At first the controls might filter you for the first hour, after you get it you'll realize it's greatness.
I'd say it's still worth $60 to this day.

Weirdly enough I find the castle the creepiest part of the game, which most people agree is the stupidest and goofiest. There’s something about the ominous music and off screen chanting that just gets under my skin, doesn’t help it also has the hardest ambushes in the game.

It only works because the enemies are slow. Use your brain a little.

It depends what you’re after. If you want a survival horror game, then yeah REmakes are better (not 0, 4 is a better survival horror than that.)

If you want an action game with a spooky atmosphere, RE4 is second to none. How much of a pleb do you have to be to prefer RE5?

New fans seem to automatically discard 4 because of the controls, as far as i've seen. People simply don't have the capacity to comprehend tank controls anymore

Not to use a meme comparison, but it's a bit reminiscent of how for example Dark Souls uses the limits of it's combat system to drive gameplay in an interesting direction rather than just letting the player control and do everything super easily and for difficulty just slapping a bullet sponge health-bar or regenerating health onto everything.

0 is absolute dogshit and there is no reason to play it no matter how much insane Rebecca waifufags say there is.
It plays bad, the story is terrible, all the enemies aside from the leech men are lame, it sucks.
