Melee now has better netplay than smash ultimate. And it's fucking free. Explain this to me, how can a mod for a game be a better product than what a company is trying to sell you?

>dedicated autism vs corporation that already got the money
i wonder why

Ultimate players usually aren't friendless autists and don't have much trouble playing offline.

Nintendo is stuck in the 90's and they literally don't give a fuck about anything because they have 100 million soccer moms buying Animal Crossing anyways.

passion vs. corporation

Melee's netplay has been better than brult for a long time. Now it's overwhelmingly better.

I know is usually about Smelees vs Ultards. But how is the netcode for Street Fighter V these days?
I remember someone also fixed it not long ago, but Capcom sent him packing and added a 50/50 fix themselves.

I still have trouble with Melee's controls. I can't dash dance without accidentally jumping. I've just gone back to PM, and am still enjoying that.

thats the point im making. smash isnt advertised as this super gamer competitive game with tournament play/practice in mind unlike traditional fighters. (and even they are transitioning to rollback like GG Strive and SnK with their rollback implementations for older games) its just good enough for little kids to play with their friends, so nintendo has no need to upgrade their online implementation + infrastructure. i dunno what retards expected though, ultimate has huge native lag already and the switch doesn't even come with an Ethernet port.

Free?
You mean, emulating it?

Competetive melee has been played on a modded version of the game for ages now. Yes, it's free and yes, the online play is free aswell.

I don't like competitive party games, still this got my interest.
How does that work? that web sight didn't say much.

Well melee's had a lot longer to improve their netcode than ultimate has. i'm sure in 15 years ultimate will also have better netcode.

>Download The Emulator
>Download a Melee ISO (a specific one, I think it's 1.02?)
>Open it

Honestly that's kind of it. You make an account, then select a character, press start and you're searching.

Using a GC controller is another step but it's mostly just having an adapter then installing drivers.

>Emulator
Oh, but I thought melee fags were anti emulator because muh lag

The switch is too weak of a console to handle rollback netcode. That's quite literally it.
I never cared that Nintendo made weaker consoles, but now it does piss me off now that I understand console power is about more than just jerking off graphicsfags.
Compare that to an emulator for a 20 years old console that runs on PCs on average more powerful than a Switch and the dedicated autism of Meleefags and you get this.

There's input delay so it makes it feel as close as possible to using a crt whilst playing online I believe.

If you have a good connection with someone it's actually great.

Quite the opposite actually, Meleefags & TOs would love to have the Melee setup be replaced by Emulation, because it wouldn't require CRTs, or controller autism for certain movement options.
Consider that most of the cumbersome autism Melee has had to go through is more or less a consequence of Nintendo being uncooperative: Better go through that than to be dead & unable to join any big Tournament like PM except as a non streamable side event ( Nintendo doesnt even really look or do anything for these Tournaments but they're enough to dissuade a lot: All Nintendo sponsoring does is cuck people, and maybe have a tweet on NintendoVS about how the Tournament is going on right now. They've never financially supported the scene in any way )

My booty bigger and less lumpy than this

Nintendo's involvement with the scene has only ever been a form of advertisement for the most current game in the series. They have no actual interest in competition and such.

Some players lap it up as if they're actually doing something though which is pretty silly.

Nintendo don't add money pools but they do provide setups for sponsored tournaments.

Only when the game runs perfectly on emulator. Nintendo will never fix the native online.
And even then, I'm pretty sure Ultimate would need a fanbase as dedicated as meleefags and I honestly don't see Ulti surviving for much longer than until the next game drops.

There was a bunch of mexicans developing a Melee like physics engine that restored wavedashing/landing and air momentum while keeping everything else from Ultimate. Maybe this would have had the chance of being the nu project M and would have maybe sparked the kind of autism needed to get good online for Ulti, but Nintendo got jewish about it and CnD the whole thing.

Playing today, getting bopped, can't wait for ranked.

if you jump when you dashdance you are either retarded or your control is fucked. Dash dance is easy to do

>The switch is too weak of a console to handle rollback netcode
doesn't Power Rangers run fine?

this is exactly why gaming needs a crash, you get more fun out of mods, I wish more games would have the Sonic Mania design philosophy as well

Power Rangers looks like an early 6th gen game. I think rollback on Smash Ultimate could work but it'd probably only be restricted to 1v1, the game can get taxing in FFA.

That's the annoying though about capitalism. If there is no profit motive then there is no reason to improve the system. My job has servers that are like 20+ years old and we never update them cause "They work and that would cost money." Our sys admin died a month ago and now no one knows how this shit works. Once these break we will go under for sure.

>inb4 I'm a commie

No, I just don't know how to solve this problem.

>If there is no profit motive then there is no reason to improve the system
Yes, the reason is not fucking everything up.

Wow, now I can play as one of 4 characters (nobody else is even close to viable, and 2 of those are clones) against people who broke their hands and dropped $300 on a specialized controller to win meaningless battles at a 20 year old game for babies ONLINE

Another thing to consider is that the Switch's Wi-Fi chip, the Broadcom BCM4356, is a piece of shit. You or anyone else who care enough to play competitively might go "LOL WI-FI", but the majority of the people playing online don't bother with an Ethernet adapter or can't because they're playing off the dock.
