Such a thing has never and never will exist. In SOMA, the most obvious explanation is just that there's a operating system calling upon a specific code that represents values which mimic the behaviour of Simon the person.

Artificially intelligent computers do not have intentions or awareness. They do not think. They can claim they do, and make a very convincing copy of it, with a lot of emotion that would make believe that their experience is genuine; but it is only ever a mimicry of authentic human experience. There is nothing on the inside.

Kieran Duffy, as dumb as that choice sounds. He didn't do anything wrong, saved Arthur's life instead of running away after being basically tortured by him and his gang for weeks, and then got kidnapped and tortured to death. His death added nothing to the story and his character could've been an easy way to show Arthur progressively becoming better as time went on. Instead everyone just treated him as a living punching bag for four chapters and then he gets decapitated and his eyes gouged out for daring to exist.
