I love mons!

Just downloaded DQV, Joker 1 and 2. Been playing those first two and enjoying them plenty.
Also fuck if Joker 1 doesn't have one of the most edgy protags I've ever seen.

contemplating buying monster rancher to play on my ps2. which ones the best one?

It's generally accepted that MR2 is the best one.

It sucks that the more monster assets you make the less you can animate them and make them feel alive.

All the more reason they should stick with a smaller amount. V-Pet 1-6, S, WS and Pendulum 1-5 were all Digimon will ever need. Make the villains "not Digimon" like the D-Reaper again. There's so much unexplored territory with Digimon.

I LOVE DRAGON WARRIOR MONSTER 2 : TARA"S ADVENTURE. PERSONALLY.

Yo-kai Watch would've been better if more yo-kai looked like this.

This. MR2 was the sweet spot before they started implimenting a fuckton of features and gimmicks.

Personally MR4 is my favorite, though.

I hope everyone purchases the Switch releases of the Monster Rancher games if they come to the US. It may convince them to create a new game...

For me, its Monster Rancher Advance 2. I will confess I haven't played the PS1 ones though
Also, look at this atrocious boxart

I like Spectrobes but I'm okay with it never coming back, the same with Fossil Fighters.

/MON/ BUMP

So what the duck is Level 5 doing now?

New DQM when

Yo-kai Watch is still that weird high school spin-off and Professor Layton's getting another mobile port.

It would be pretty hard to make a new Fossil Fighters without the touch screen and breath thing.
That's not saying anything about the fucking mess Frontier left us on.

That's actually not that bad of a redesign, though the first one has better proportions.

meant for

The main issue is that it's very much just a reskin of the very basic theropod model.
While the first two FFs used the same skeleton a lot, the models themselves were all mostly very unique.
There's nothing quite like the original Carchar in the first games, meanwhile there's plenty of things in Frontier that look just like that Carchar with just different colors and maybe some extra bits.

What exactly was the goal with frontier, anyway? What was the idea behind rebooting a fledgeling franchise and scrapping all the designs that people were just starting to love?

I love monsters

And drastically changing the gameplay into something much worse.

My only guess is that they didn't really know how to deal with the jump from DS to 3DS in terms of visuals.
They went for a weird semi-realistic sort of feel with the textures, but also turned up the ridiculous proportions of the first games up to 11 while also just changing a lot of made individual dinos unique due to the 'better' graphics being more time-consuming.
As for gameplay, it's just another one of those cases I've seen a lot where a game, specifically a Mon game, tries to change things up but strays too far from what made the first gameplay style fun.
People shit on Pokemon for never changing it up, but with cases like FFFrontier and Ni No Kuni 2, I'd honestly rather just have things stick to what works than just try to change things jsut for the sake of changing things.

MONSTERS RULE

Last week when someone mentioned Cassete Beasts, I didn't think it was a real game and that they were just making fun of Disc Creatures' bad name. I really hope this doesn't become a trend.

redpill me on coromon. I played the demo for maybe a minute and the text was almost identical to pokemon. Is it more than a pokemon clone underneath the surface?

We never got the remakes or DQMJ3
So I'm thinking ... never

Honestly with all the shit Pokemon is under right now, now is a prime time for other Mon games to step in. Though DQM likely will remain niche as with the rest of DQ outside of Japan.
