DKC1

Tropical Freeze is. DKC2 is fantastic but anyone who says it's better than TF is deluded by nostalgia.

DKC2 is better since the bonuses aren't copy pasted shit, and the world map feels connected instead of being randomly themed islands

The tropical freeze bonus rooms were awful for sure.

DKC2 has better artstyle, atmosphere, story, and bonus rooms. Tropical Freeze has better everything else.
One of the biggest points I'd give the Retro games over the Rare ones is the much improved camera. Replaying DKC on the switch and occasionally a chomps or something darts into view and I just don't have time to react. Maybe it's just that I haven't played 1 in a while.

Tropical Freeze's worlds a very samey. DKC2's have way more atmosphere and variety

How come there's an insane difference in quality between 2D Rare and 3D Rare, anything 2D that Rare made was great, 3D are the most boring games I've ever played.

>tropical dong
>slippery controls like everything is made of ice
>4 enemy variants that pose no threat to you

It's better than DKCR by a little bit but not even close to being better than DKC1 let alone DKC2. There is just so much packed into DKC2 and it is completely polished.

I will concede that the African Plains area in DKC TF is fucking beautiful and I did really enjoy the swimming mechanics.

This is fucking bullshit and you know it. Many of the levels in 2 are samey, however I will say they are drawn really well. Tropical freeze has multiple themes as well but doesn't quite have the """""""""soul"""""""" that 2 had.

SOUL
SOULLESS

TF in every way

How the fuck can you say that when almost every level in DKCTF has completely unique assets that only show up in that one level?

Do you really think tropical freeze is soulless?

Tropical Freeze is a great game but I feel like it's not as instantly replayable as DKC2 is

The only enemy I can remember from Tropical Donk is those flying owls shaped like drums. It took me 2 hours to finally complete that stupid temple level where you have to do perfect bounces on every enemy to reach the end. It was a fun level but none of the other temple levels felt any good to me. DKC2 had some better challenging levels.

Why does tropical freeze feel so slippery with the movement? Even on non Ice levels it felt strange to me. Loved the game but not that aspect.

I have seen a lot of people with this complaint as well. It just didn't feel as solid as the DKC series. I found myself struggling to stand on tiny ledges and often landing beside enemies and getting hurt instead of jumping perfectly onto them like I can do in every other platformer.

I liked DKC2 more even though I played TF first. I liked more the short levels approach of DKC2 and the music as also better imo, the length was just right and the bonus stages weren't annoying like on TP. Honestly DKC2 is just a perfect 2d platformer. TF is more ambitious and probably had higher highs but I just found DKC2 more enjoyable as a whole.

>Banjo Kazooie
>Conker
>Boring

Get some taste fag

DKC1 is very mediocre. TF and DKC2 are about the same level of quality. DKC3 is better than 1 also.

It depends what you like in a game. DKC2 definitely had the setting down in spades and the levels reflected quirky mechanics you'd expect to see in those areas. It's theme was overall much stronger than TF's. Animal riding, minecarts, floating over lava vents with balloons and swimming through cargo bays.

Though TF's world feels a bit disconnected, each world is solidly built in and of itself and from a gameplay perspective the level design is much more interesting. DKC2 development its apparent went from a theme into a function while TF is went from function to theme. You can tell the developers wanted to make fun levels first and then used tilesets/world building to explain why the levels exist afterwards. So I could see people persuaded towards one or the other based on what they personally want out of a video game.

DKC2 has my heart...

But Tropical Freeze is the best DKC game, objectively.

>This is fucking bullshit and you know it. Many of the levels in 2 are samey, however I will say they are drawn really well. Tropical freeze has multiple themes as well but doesn't quite have the """""""""soul"""""""" that 2 had.
I said "worlds" not levels. Most of the DKC worlds are lush and green

>How the fuck can you say that when almost every level in DKCTF has completely unique assets that only show up in that one level
Because i'm not referring to the levels

DKC2 is peak Donkey Kong.

The new Countries are better than DKC3.

FPBP

Left side is best aesthetic and music and best game of its era, right is a better game but the music just didn't set as much of a mood and the aesthetic was less interesting.

DKC2 just knew how to give you some contrast in shit. Like bramble blast? That was a light, simple, easy barrel level in the sky with the best track in the game, but it came right after a series of difficult swamp levels, and it came tied with a save point. It was a nice reward. And the secret unlockable levels just had that look to them that made you want to get them all.

tropical freeze is potentially the most overrated platformer ever made. it is genuinely the first and only 2D platformer that I actually managed to get fucking bored of halfway through.

Why is DKC3 hated? I really liked the European atmosphere.

DKC2 is by far the better game. Better, original soundtrack (hot head bop, stickerbrush symphony, toxic tower), great level design, considerably challenging, enemies that actually look threatening, fun boss fights.

bad first impression. the game picks up well but the first level and kiddy kong stop some people from getting to the better parts of the game.

It's close, they're both very good. I think Freeze is more fun to play, even though it has problems like other anons mentioned.

Where is the DKC for Switch? Did they put DKC2 on SNES App to get people talking about DKC before a big reveal coming up?

People always act like RareWare are some sort of Gods, but they made shitty games before they started working with Nintendo.

This. It’s a slight improvement on a 7.5/10 game so it’s a 8/10 but most likely no one played Returns so they overrated TF. No animal buddies besides the one from returns, partners feel like power ups, dreamworks looking enemies and kiddy look, not enough content/levels (LESS than returns, only 3 bonus levels...

have you all Tried Yooka Layle and the Impossible Lair?
I heard it was very similar to DKCTF

also despite fans hyping up the high level of "variety" in the level design, literally every single world is just some variation of a jungle. for a game as long as it is, that gets tiring very fast.

impossible lair is essentially donkey kong country 4 with an indie budget and new bells and whistles of what was good from modern platformers like rayman legends and tropical freeze. there are a few odd design choices but overall it's a great game that doesn't overstay its welcome, and I liked it more than tropical freeze.

Bold statement, friend. I'll give it a shot tho.

DKC2 title screen always scared me a little. The top right always looked like some kind of beast with a glowing red eye, a vicious bear or something with sharp teeth

DKC2 controls a lot snappier than TF

Jungle Beat by a country mile.

the original soul/soulless was someone calling original DKC renders soul and DKCR renders soulless, so yes

Nu-DK fags should kill themselves for even daring to compare their fucking garbage to the original trilogy.

No. It's a regular 2D platformer. Just kinda...platforms and enemies are thrown in, Im sure the player will make it to the end.

DKCR and Tropical Freeze are very deliberately designed, with ideal routes being intended and mostly lining up with speedruns
