i know this is a joke but if nintendo does VR its gonna be portable. Selling a console with an external headset is just more expensive. Whether or not portable VR is possible comes down to if nintendo wants to use a more expensive chipset. If they go with pascal theres no way, If they go with turing its possible.

there will eventually. there are so many upgrades that nintendo can make which will have a huge impact for barely any increase in cost like having HDMI 2.0 support on the dock for example which will allow 4k upscaling at 60hz and also HDR for those colors to really pop. it will make switch games so much more appealing to the masses since they'll look amazing with HDR colors. also if they want to upgrade the hardware the obvious upgrade is to an OLED 1080p screen. even the vita had an OLED screen. it goes hand in hand with the HDR support.
