its the greatest game

stop breathing through your mouth, take off your non prescription glasses, stop browsing reddit. I could go on

has it aged well? this is why I'm wondering if there's any helpful tips I could use, or if it works just fine jumping in.

When you get to the desert caves, always go for the 3rd strongest mole boss first.

Have fun

Once you get Jeff, make sure to always check trash cans
Effectiveness of Jeff's tools is based on his Luck stat
Don't bother with slingshots and yo-yos for Ness
Butterflies refill your PP so if you're running low on HP and see one, use up all your PP and then touch it

Keep in mind the game isn't super grindy, but make sure to be cautious of the areas full of enemies. It's a pain in the ass having to go and revive yourself and your party members.

Beginning is the hardest part since your HP is too low to make the rolling counter useful. You might have to grind for the first couple bosses. Besides that, it's a pretty self explanatory rpg

Listen to this music until all of your chakras are open.

you can de-spawn enemies if you leave the screen they are on, it really helps when youre low on HP and dont want to risk losing progress

haha
It really does have a certain charm to it. It's a bit of a shame that I know so many spoilers from it, but that is also one of the reasons I'm so interested in playing it.
Thanks guys.

You can also get rekt that way by respawning enemies as you walk off the screen.

Make sure you got enough healing items near the end of the game because that shit gets brutal

you can generally retry until you get weak or no enemies

Check the trees north of Onett proper for a secret path to a treehouse and a free baseball cap

Don't bother buying towels in the desert, just heal your sunstrokes through PSI

Great game unfortunately ruined by insufferable hipsters.

you can interact with things by pressing a certain button without going into the menu figure out which one it is because it makes things less cumbersome.

Anytime you get a new party member (especially paula) find the nearest spot to grind and level them up to snuff with the rest of the party.

Don't level Ness up to 99 until after you've collected the 8 melodies and killed ??? in ???

Multi-Bottle Rockets are gamebreakingly busted and will rape every enemy in the game, final boss included.

>Thinking that other peoples' opinions can change the intrinsic value of art.

>Single player game released in 1994 ruined by other people's opinions

how?

>Mother 2
OP is faggot

yes:

>take your emulator
>dump it in the trash
>get a snes, any crt and a flashcart
>play it on saturday mornings with a bowl of captain crunch
>take big breaks and treat it as your single vidya related past time, don't play other rpgs or games in general unless it's something competitive like counter strike or melee
>use L button
>don't have stupid high expectations and look beneath to see the beloved elements

This

-You should check trash cans before you get Jeff anyway as well. Onett has a tasty burger in one, Threed has a teddy bear shield.
-Its not Jeff's luck stat, its the enemy's. Works both ways. Your luck will decide if you are affected by certain status as well. The goals to reach for are 40 and 80. 80 Luck provides 100% immunity to all luck based status in the game. 40 is just for stuff like can't concentrate and so on.
Either way Jeff's best tools don't care about the Luck stat.

-Ditto on Slingshots and Yo-yos, not only does Ness lose the chance to get smash attacks they have a default 19% miss rate, Ness and Paula's weapons and bare handed attacks by default have a 6% chance to miss. Which doesn't sound that bad but due to Ness' base speed you'll find that some enemies really can piss you off til end game (where the game fixes Ness' speed issue).
Paula's magic fry pan has a 25% chance to miss but the 100 guts it gives are worth it. For starters smash attacks are factored into the attack formula before enemy dodge rate is so even if you have a 25% chance to miss at least you won't have to worry about manual dodge % (due to Paula's high base speed and the smash attack % rate). Oh and guts affect the game's "auto life % chance" with Paula packing 150 at max guts at level 99 with the magic fry pan you'll find she can be very hard to ko sometimes in 1 hit.

level 5 for Frank at least and level 9 for titanic ant at least. Level 8 is plain overkill for frank because you can ohko him and level 14 you can 1hko the ant with paralysis (oh and you can ohko the other major sanctuary boss with paralysis 2, so don't worry about Paula being useless in that fight)

How come people are getting away with selling physical copies of the fan translation of mother 3?

Inventory space can be a pain, make use of your sister/escargot express to hold on to key items for you. But keep the sound stone, some dungeons you'll need it.

jeff curbstomps the game hard

>Don't level Ness up to 99 until after you've collected the 8 melodies and killed ??? in ???
This dear god this. Can't believe I almost forgot this.

Said event is one of the most badass moments in a game still IMO (I'll admit being 10 or so when I experienced it the 1st time could have influenced my view on it still). But if you are level 99 you will have it ruined. Its stuff like this that I wish EB got a remake sometimes because they could fix stuff like this though.

When you get to the underground cave full of Starmen keep fighting them until you get "that weapon"

Well they are still selling the offical mother 3 cart at least right?

Only because he is with 3 powerful psychics, even then it is Paula who is the real MVP damage wise towards foes with Ness being the rock of the team (impossible to kill + heals everyone, and hits like a truck)

Hell Ness OHKOs several foes as well with his paralysis + flash beta psi

Ness
-Paladin with white mage level magic

Paula
-black mage

Jeff
-thief + engineer class

Poo
-red mage

So out of everything, this level 99 thing is like the most important?

Be prepared for RNG to possibly fuck you in the ass. Level ups give random stat increases, so you might find yourself having to grind more than others would.

For example, in my first playthrough, I beat the first major boss at like level 9 or 10 without issue, but when I tried replaying the game, I struggled to even beat it at level 12 because I was getting such shitty level ups.
I dropped my replay of this game because I was getting fucked in the ass by RNG, not just in levels but by shit like enemies constantly calling in reinforcements every turn in a fight I wasn't allowed to run from, which led to me eventually getting killed, and dropping my replay. I'd rather just keep the nice memories of my first playthrough, and not replace it all with the frustration of the shitty design the second playthrough was opening my eyes to.

Hopefully you have a good time, but the best tip I can give is to only play through this game once, and don't give it the chance to make you hate it in a second playthrough.

Grind in Onett until you're a walking god, that should let you shit on most things for the rest of the game.

Everything else is more fun to discover yourself and won't have a detrimental effect on you if you miss out on it - the level 99 thing will nerf you (althoguh if you're 99 you'll be pretty tough anyway)
No need to be levelling up that high anyway, don't grind TOO much

make sure to reset if you get close to 99. I've had horrible luck 1 time where I ended up having to reset 2x...

1/128 is a fucking lie. If you have 2 other foes besides the one there it is 1/(128x2/3) because the game will only reward you 1 item per battle. EB's rare rate isn't as bad as oh say Final Fantasy 4's but it is a major fuck this bull shit moment. Rare drop rates is one thing the other games in the series do better than EB. Mother 3 just has 1/30 at worse and IDK what EBB's is but the only ones worth your time anyway are the PK beam beta attack item before you can buy them and the flame throwers.

Really not worth it aside from bragging rights.

If you hate how clunky and primitive it is then don't be discouraged when it comes time to play 3, it fixes almost every QoL issue.

Whatever you do, don't use the Casey Bat.

also, don't buy the Zip Gun (it's bugged and can't be removed from your inventory) and don't bother grinding for weapons

OP, my take on 1/128 is don't grind for it on your first playthrough. I think the 1/128 stuff is fun for replays. I played the game when it came out and have beat it a good 8-9 times in my life. I just got 'that weapon' for the first time off dumb luck on my last replay and that was more rewarding than my failed grind sessions as a kid.

Remember, in Moonside, Yes means No and No means Yes

Would they get away with it today lads?

Both of the big deserts have a respawn-able, hard to catch but instantly defeatable worm enemy that gives a ton of exp for that level- really good for power leveling or just catching up.
The first one is especially useful as even with the extra levels the enemies in the following section can be a real bitch.

Other than that it's pretty straight forward so long as you pay attention. Just enjoy the story and save often.

AWOOGA AWOOGA

Go in as blind as possible.

USE THE FUCKING SHIELDS
I don't remember if that was as useful as in mother 3 though

Even though the levels ups are random it isn't Fire Emblem's random.

The game's stats go off a stat formula that balances everything out in the end. Idk what this user is doing but pretty much no matter what by level 11 Ness should have 100+ hp no matter what unless the game glitches in some way. Which is more than enough to beat the titanic ant unless you have shit luck (fucker puts on shields each round, rng for rockin rolls low numbers, ant does bite attacks non stop, rockin fails to kill one of the medic back ups in the 1st round for some reason)

level 3 ness has 45 no matter what
level 5 ness has 60 no matter what
level 7 ness has 75 no matter what
level 9 ness has 90 no matter what
level 11 ness has 105 no matter what

Ness at level 99 should have 750 hp or so at his base because his hidden vitality stat is actually 50 (Poo has 40, Jeff 30, Paula 20).

Paula at level 99 will have 118-120 base offense for example. And if you reached level 100 she would have had at least 120.

What?

Get the fuck out of here before people start spoiling the game.
It is very much worth it to play as blind as possible.
Also, check and remember this:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey_at_the_Bat

HAVE A NIGHT PENDANT ON EVERY PARTY MEMBER FOR THE FINAL BOSS DEAR LORD YOU WON'T REGRET IT
>t. Lost 3 times due to insta-death from """"""incomprehensible"""""" attacks

If you see this little faggot tell him to fuck off

Attached: orange kid.png (300x458, 3.12K)

In Moonside, No means Yes and Yes means No

no (yes)

This
Orange is a bastard, do not believe his lies
Apple is a bro

I don't understand what you mean by "Would they get away with it today lads?"

I remember looking up the leveling system when I was getting my ass beat in that second playthrough, and my shit wasn't lining up with it at all, which led me to believe that the internet didn't know what it was talking about, but yeah I guess a glitch in the game is also a reasonable answer.

The whole idea of the importance of consent and "No means No" alongside the #metoo movement and such
Seems like something that would get labelled as making a joke out of those issues

OP... I hope you're not retarded enough to still be in this thread.
