Why do people play horror games? What exactly is the appeal of feeling scared? Where is the fun in that?
I'm dropping this. It's just an unpleasant, horrifying game all around. It's funny since I got through the entirety of 2 mostly fine, but that's perhaps because I was very engaged to the plot. This shit has almost no story, or at the very least an interesting hook. It's just 100% horror.
For whatever reason I find certain horror games to be weirdly comforting? I think it's because they ironically tend to have more down to earth settings and characters.

One, being scared is a strong feeling and horror can veer that sensation into entertainment. Two, horror games tend to have a strong atmospheric element be it in their pacing, enemy designs or artstyle, and as such can be engaging on that front. Three, I certainly hope you played SH1 before starting SH3.

This. Real life scares the shit out of me but horror games are as cozy as laying in bed during an afternoon shower on a Sunday.

SH3 is a direct sequel to SH1. SH2 is a standalone story.

I enjoy feeling discomfort and tension without actually being in danger in small bursts

Depends on the horror. Resident Evil is like goofy B movie horror so I agree there. SH's more cerebral approach it too intense for comfort imo (in a good way)

>I didn't. >Why? Is that bad? It's a direct sequel user you aren't gonna understand the plot.

I'm a huge coward and tiptoe my way through all horror games on my first playthroughs. There's just something that I love about them that makes them engaging. It's fun to be scared and to think about the world the characters are living in.
not all people find being comfortable and content to be the goal of being alive. something like a near death experience often has an incredibly important impact on a person and shows them what truly matters.

Silent Hill 3 is the fucking worst in the series. I still can't figure out why it's so popular. Probably because it's a chick main character.

Robert Ross
Yes, boredom tends to filter me.
Jonathan Turner
You do know the series goes on after 4 right? Or are you asserting that 3 is worse than Homecoming, Downpour and Book of Memories?
3's a more engaging video game than 2, which is possibly the easiest game in the series. I would say it's the less "boring" one if I had to choose.
Daniel Brown
Well for starters Silent Hill 3. It does kind of sound ridiculous with the hellish stuff you eventually encounter but there's something about Heather's aloof teenage personality, the slow pace, and the mundane environments that just strikes a relaxing vibe for me.
Alexander Richardson
>which is possibly the easiest game in the series Am I the only one that played it on hard combat? Maybe you could describe it as dull but it definitely was not easy in any way.
>What exactly is the appeal of feeling scared? horror is basically an offshoot of the adventure genre. experiencing and defeating the unknown. scary monsters are at the end of the spectrum when it comes to an adversary that the hero must overcome.
Hard makes the sedate average enemies faster but only a little more difficult to outmaneuver. The Pyramid Head encounters are much more challenging but there's only like 3 of them, and only 1 of them really requires you to fight. It is a bitch of a fight, though.

Horror games are westerners favorites. No one in Japan plays them.
Jaxson Rogers
Which explains why all the best horror games are Japanese.
